Check out QMx 1/6 scale Firefly: Nathan Fillion as Malcolm Reynolds 12-inch action figure

Firefly is an American space western drama television series created by writer and director Joss Whedon, under his Mutant Enemy Productions label. Whedon served as an executive producer, along with Tim Minear. The series is set in the year 2517, after the arrival of humans in a new star system, and follows the adventures of the renegade crew of Serenity, a "Firefly-class" spaceship. The ensemble cast portrays the nine characters who live on Serenity. Whedon pitched the show as "nine people looking into the blackness of space and seeing nine different things".

Nathan Fillion plays Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds — the owner of Serenity and former Independent sergeant in the pivotal Battle of Serenity Valley. He is cunning, a capable leader and a skilled fighter. Mal's main character drive is his will for independence. While he is not above petty theft, smuggling or even killing to maintain his free lifestyle, he is generally honest in his dealings with others, fiercely loyal to his crew and closely follows a personal moral code.

QMx is excited to bring you the first screen-accurate, realistic, 1:6 scale, articulated collectible figure of Malcolm Reynolds, the always resourceful captain of the Firefly-class transport Serenity.

Preview Very Hot 1/6 scale USSOCOM Navy SEAL UDT 12-inch figure - he's no transporter

The Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT) were an elite special-purpose force established by the United States Navy during World War II. They also served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Their primary function was to reconnoiter and destroy enemy defensive obstacles on beaches prior to amphibious landings. They also were the frogmen who retrieved astronauts after splashdown in the Mercury through Apollo manned space flight programs.

The UDTs pioneered combat swimming, closed-circuit diving, underwater demolitions, and midget submarine (dry and wet submersible) operations. They were the precursor to the present-day United States Navy SEALs. In 1983, after additional SEAL training, the UDTs were re-designated as SEAL Teams or Swimmer Delivery Vehicle Teams (SDVTs). SDVTs have since been re-designated SEAL Delivery Vehicle Teams.

Almost 10 years after Hot Toys release of the SEAL UDT figure, Very Hot Toys has finally made a copy. VHT started out by making copies of Hot Toys' 12-inch military figures and they are still doing it to this day, proving that they can survive in this 1/6 scale collectible market simply by replicating, reproducing and rereleasing figures of old. Not content with just releasing 1/6 scale uniform sets in the past, this time Very Hot will be releasing this USSOCOM Navy SEAL UDT set with 12-inch figure. Before Hot Toys moved into movie-related figures and products where they have carved a niche for themselves as a top notch manufacturer with price to match, Hot Toys were releasing quite a number of military figures. The figures were all pretty loaded when they were released, carrying everything with them including the kitchen sink and this SEAL UDT figure by Very Hot is no exception, since it is pretty much a copy of what Hot Toys had done.

Comparison pictures of Foxbox Studio 1/6 scale God Complex Hermes 12-inch action figures

continued from previous post...

So far two 1/6 scale God Complex Hermes 12-inch figures have been released by Foxbox Studio and they are both extremely limited in numbers and hard to come by. The first hermes figure was also the first Foxbox Studio figure and since that figure's release, they have been on a roll and released quite a number of God Complex figures with more on the way. The God Complex line has struck a chord with many collectors and gathered quite a lot of fans to the story and styling. The designs are very unique and refreshing and offers collectors a different perspective from the usual military lines and movie related merchandise products / figures.

The second Hermes figure aka Black Hermes was released recently at the 2014 Thailand Toy Expo (which was held from May 1-4 @ Central World, Bangkok) as an event exclusive limited to only 20 pieces, and priced at 8500 Thai Baht, available via Raffle only.

So how do these two Hermes figures fare? Let's put these two Foxbox Studio God Complex Hermes figures side-by-side for a one-to-one comparison and see how different the second figure differs from the first. The latest released figure, Black Hermes Psychoprompus, is as the name suggests, very much black in color whereas the first released Hermes figure is predominantly gray / silver with a tinge of white.

Achilles leading his Myrmidons along with the rest of the Greek army invading the historical city of Troy, lead by Hector's Trojan army. The ending of the film (the sacking of Troy) is not taken from the Iliad as the ending of the Iliad was based on Hector's death and funeral burial.

Review 1: 2014 Thailand Toy Expo FoxBox Studio exclusive Black Hermes Psychoprompus

Backstory by Foxbox Studio:
Acropolis Inc., the first corporation to distribute energy to the people of Hellenic Republic, was founded by a primary Ruler, Zeus. Zeus has many sons and among them is Hermes. Although he is chosen to be among the big twelve in the company, he has never been Zeus' favorite. He is always the one doing most of the work even if the glory always falls on his brothers. Apollo being the great one or Ares as the brave one. While he never seemed to have much ambition, nevertheless cunning is Hermes' greatest strength. He needs neither physical prowess nor great charisma to get his way. Instead, he can manipulate Acropolis' dying capital utilizing only his quick wit, and although he never really cares about Acropolis' fate, he saved it time and again using his relationship with Hades. Despite being born a Ruler, Hermes is a human sympathizer and he will be a central character in aiding the humans to rise against the Rulers.

This was the 2014 Thailand Toy Expo (May 1-4 @ Central World, Bangkok) FoxBox Studio 1/6 scale God Complex “Black Hermes Psychoprompus” 12-inch action figure, an event exclusive limited to only 20 pieces, and priced at 8500 Thai Baht, available via Raffle only. I feel very privileged to have this limited edition figure for a review and to be able to post pictures for all to enjoy :) It seems like FoxBox Studio God Complex Hermes is meant to be a quite unattainable and very rare figure since both times he is released in very limited numbers.

This is Foxbox Studio's second 1/6 scale "God Complex: Hermes" 12-inch Figure, the first was released back in 2011 and there were only 100 pieces produced. You can check out my reviews of the FIRST Foxbox Studio God Complex: Hermes 1/6 scale figure HERE, HERE and HERE. Preview OE (Original Effect) 1/6 scale Shadow series SH-2 Hasuyike Sunayuki 13" female figure

Following on the high heels of OE (Original Effect) 1/6 scale Shadow Series Viola (SH-1) 13-inch female action figure (see the preview pictures HERE) comes the second Shadow figure in the series, OE (Original Effect) 1/6 scale Shadow series SH-2 Hasuyike Sunayuki 13-inch female figure.

The Shadow series figures are more or less re-releases of figures from OE's Army Attractive series but with different skin color. For the Shadow series, OE has decided to re-color and re-dress their Army Attractive series female figures in just black and white colors with a tinge of red (very slight). But from the pictures OE has released, you cannot really tell that the figures have blue skin. It looks like they just took the regular figure and photographed her with a lot of green light (not blue) so we actually don't know how the blue skinned figures really look :(

OE (Original Effect) 1/6 scale Shadow series SH-2 Hasuyike Sunayuki 13-inch female figure Item List include: Sunayuki’s 1/6 scale Shadow head sculpt, 13-inch Reborn Body (Blue Skin), Wafuku Surcoat, Belt, Wafuku Underdress, Vertical belt, Breast Knot, Hands (1 Pair). More pictures of Square Enix Play Arts Kai 2014 RoboCop version 1.0 - third-part Review: NICE!

continued from previous post...

The new 2014 RoboCop film (a reboot of the 1987 classic) introduces us first to the stunning RoboCop version 1.0, a look inspired by the original film, while at the same time, making the robot suit more modern and refined. Not sure if many die-hard RoboCop fans agreed with the new look though.

Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman), a police officer injured in a car bomb explosion, is chosen by OmniCorp to be outfitted with a cybernetic body and software, making him the first cyborg cop to be deployed for civilian law enforcement in the United States. When Murphy wakes up in his new body, his face and right hand have been incorporated onto the robotic suit as biological parts.

As mentioned earlier, this is my first Square Enix Play Arts Kai action figure and out of the three RoboCop figures released (classic 1987 RoboCop, 2014 RoboCop version 1.0 and version 3.0), I chose this Square Enix Play Arts Kai 2014 RoboCop version 1.0 because it closely resembles the original version RoboCop. I've been giving Square Enix Play Arts Kai action figures a miss all this time because I never liked the sculpting of the heads / portraits. In this instance, since RoboCop's head is mostly covered, I didn't have any problems with the sculpting.

I've already covered quite a bit on this Square Enix Play Arts Kai 2014 RoboCop version 1.0 in my previous posts HERE and HERE, so this third-part review is mostly to show off the nice details and paintwork of this 1/7 scale 9-inch (23 cm) tall RoboCop action figure.

Check out WorldBox 1/6 scale "Mortal Kombat" Kung Lao 12-inch action figure - that's a cool hat!

Kung Lao is a close friend of the series' protagonist Liu Kang and together they were the main characters of the spin-off game Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. He gained considerable popularity and favorable critical reception, in large part because of his famous weapon resembling Oddjob's hat.

Inflames Toys X Newsoul Toys 1/6 scale The Spirit of Chinese Civilisation Guan Yunchang

Guan Yu, aka Yunchang, was a general serving under the warlord Liu Bei in the late Eastern Han dynasty of China. He played a significant role in the civil war that led to the collapse of the Han dynasty and the establishment of the state of Shu Han in the Three Kingdoms period, of which Liu Bei was the first emperor. Guan is respected as an epitome of loyalty and righteousness.

Guan was deified as early as the Sui dynasty and is still worshipped by many Chinese people today, especially in southern China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and among many overseas Chinese communities. He is a figure in Chinese folk religion, popular Confucianism, Taoism, and Chinese Buddhism, and small shrines to Guan are almost ubiquitous in traditional Chinese shops and restaurants. He is often reverently called Guan Gong (Lord Guan) and Guan Di (Emperor Guan).

No descriptions of Guan Yu's physical appearance exist in historical records, but his beard was mentioned in the Sanguozhi. Traditionally, he is portrayed as a red-faced warrior with a long lush beard. Guan Yu is traditionally depicted wearing a green robe over his body armour. Supposedly, Guan Yu's weapon was a guan dao named Green Dragon Crescent Blade, which resembled a glaive and was said to weigh 82 catties (about 18.25 kg or 40 lbs).

Inflames Toys together with Newsoul Toys will be releasing this 1/6 scale The Spirit of Chinese Civilisation Guan Yunchang 12-inch figure and it certainly looks amazing. Scroll down to see the pictures.

The She-Predator Machiko Noguchi Premium Format™ Figure by Sideshow Collectibles

From the AVP universe, Sideshow Collectibles is proud to introduce the Machiko Noguchi Premium Format™ Figure.

Popularly known as the She-Predator by fans of the Alien Vs Predator franchise, Machiko is one of the few humans ever to be accepted by Predators as one of their own. Based on an original interpretive character study, Sideshow’s artists have envisioned the beautiful yet barbaric warrior in a customizable display that features interchangeable masked and unmasked portraits.

Determined to restore her lost family honor and overcome a lonely existence, Machiko’s tough persona and hunter’s prowess is perfectly captured in her expression and pose. Having won the hard earned respect of a Yatuja leader, her striking appearance imitates theirs, wearing her dark hair slicked back in dreadlocks, customized Predator armor with a fabric netted body suit, and the mark of their clan on her brow. Standing triumphantly over a fallen Alien Queen, and armed with razor sharp wrist gauntlets, a combi-stick spear and shoulder-mounted plasma cannon, it’s plain to see Machiko can take care of herself, as part of the pack or out on her own.

Square Enix Play Arts Kai 2014 RoboCop version 1.0 Review II - where does he store his guns?

continued from previous post...

RoboCop is the 2014 remake of the 1987 film of the same name. The film stars Joel Kinnaman as Alex Murphy, a Detroit police officer who is critically injured in the line of duty. OmniCorp, a multinational conglomerate brings Murphy back to life as the cybernetic police officer RoboCop. The film was directed by José Padilha (Elite Squad) and co-stars Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, and Gary Oldman.

While the classic 1987 RoboCop (Peter Weller) was bulkier and more machine like, this reboot version with Joel Kinnaman inside the robot suit is sleeker and looks more human. The final version (version 3.0) the company OmniCorp went for in the film was painted all black for a more "tactical look". I much prefer this version as the paintwork and colors are more similar to the original RoboCop.

One of the unique things about 1987 RoboCop that we all liked was the hidden holster in his right thigh which opens and ejects his Auto 9 pistol. The producers of the 2014 RoboCop reboot went one up and gave the new RoboCop two guns and two holsters, one on each thigh.

Preview Kotobukiya DC Comics New 52 Green Arrow ARTFX+ 1/10 scale 7.5 inches tall Statue

A Kotobukiya Japanese import! The latest DC Comics ARTFX+ Statue from Kotobukiya returns to the pages of the New 52 with a popular and colorful character, Green Arrow! Introduced all the way back in 1941, billionaire Oliver Queen was marooned on a deserted island and there learned to survive by the way of the bow. Taking those skills back to civilization after being rescued, “Ollie” would take on the identity of Green Arrow and fight crime in Star City and Seattle, though his adventures with the Justice League would take him all around the world and beyond. In the New 52 Green Arrow continues to defend the innocent as he investigates the truth of his past and what shaped him as a hero.

The Emerald Archer appears for the first time in the ARTFX+ lineup, posed with a wide stance as he scans for enemies (What happened to his EYES?!!) and prepares to draw an arrow. Oliver wears his New 52 costume featuring a black and green outfit that leaves his arms mostly bare for shooting. With reinforced boots, a padded chest piece, and armored gauntlets Green Arrow is ready for anything, and the gold accents shine on his buckles and arrow emblem belt buckle. The archer holds his bright green bow sideways in front of him, ready for nocking an arrow from the full quiver on his back. Wearing his trademark green hood and mask, the focused hero still shows off a bit of his blonde hair and scruffy beard.

Review Square Enix Play Arts Kai RoboCop 2014 version 1.0 - super-human cyborg back in action

"Dead or alive, you're coming with me!"

RoboCop is a 2014 American science fiction action film directed by José Padilha. It is a remake of the 1987 film of the same name and reboot of the RoboCop franchise. The film stars Joel Kinnaman in the title role, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton and Samuel L. Jackson. For me, it's not a classic like Paul Verhoeven's 1987 original as it lacks the social satire (and violence) of the original film. The 1987 RoboCop showed the audience why RoboCop was needed: the future world was full of violence and crime and hopelessness, and needed someone / something to give the citizens hope that things could get better, crime could be dealt with effectively and justice could be served. This 2014 version of RoboCop showed a very sleek looking future metropolis where everything looked rather rosy and efficient, and questions the need for a cyborg cop to enforce the law.

I still liked the new interpretations of the RoboCop suit and how it differs from the original version while trying to retain some similarity / familiarity. I think the original RoboCop has its pros and it will always be a classic. This newer version / reboot is a nice attempt but I doubt we'll be seeing any sequels. I recently got this Square Enix Play Arts Kai RoboCop 2014 version 1.0 23 cm tall (9 inches) action figure because I wanted an updated and improved (?) version of this cyborg cop since I already have quite a collection of the classic 1987 version. You can see some of the pictures of my RoboCop collection HERE.

Incoming: OE (Original Effect) 1/6 scale Army Attractive Vol.11 Cleopatra 13-inch female figure

Cleopatra VII Philopator, known to history as Cleopatra, was the last active pharaoh of Ancient Egypt, only shortly survived by her son, Caesarion as pharaoh. As pharaoh, she consummated a liaison with Julius Caesar that solidified her grip on the throne. After Caesar's assassination in 44 BC, she aligned with Mark Antony in opposition to Caesar's legal heir, Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus (later known as Augustus).

To this day, Cleopatra remains a popular figure in Western culture. Her legacy survives in numerous works of art and the many dramatizations of her story in literature and other media, including William Shakespeare's tragedy Antony and Cleopatra, Jules Massenet's opera Cléopâtre and the 1963 film Cleopatra. In most depictions, Cleopatra is portrayed as a great beauty, and her successive conquests of the world's most powerful men are taken as proof of her aesthetic and sexual appeal.

OE (Original Effect) 1/6 scale Army Attractive series Vol.11 Cleopatra 13-inch female figure will come with 1/6 scale Cleopatra head sculpt, 13-inch Reborn body, Grasping hands (1 pair), Normal hands (1 pair), Cleopatra’s underwear, Cleopatra’s cloak, Cleopatra’s high-heel boots and Golden scepter.

Ben Affleck Batman costume for the May 2016 Man of Steel sequel directed by Zack Snyder

If you have been hiding under a rock in Bikini Bottom with Patrick the starfish (which is kind of weird), then you wouldn't know about the new Batman Costume designed for Ben Affleck who plays the caped crusader in the follow-up film which will also feature Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). In that case, here's another look at the new costume posted by director Zack Snyder together with the new batmobile.

The picture of Batman had been lightened so that we can see more details of the new Batsuit. It's a black and white picture so it's anyone's guess as to what the color scheme is although if you trawl the internet or facebook, you'll probably see a lot of pictures with the colors added by Batman fans.

Shown below (scroll down) is the actual picture posted by director Zack Snyder, showing Ben Affleck in his batsuit staring down ominously at the iconic vehicle. There seems to be a hint of the Joker as well. The 48-year-old US director had tweeted a photo of the hero's car covered with a grey tarpaulin the day before (see the next picture), along with a caption reading: "Could be time to pull the tarp...tomorrow?"

New Batman and new Batmobile. I'm stoked! Can't wait to see what they do with Wonder Woman. Don't worry about her plane. It's probably still invisible LOL

AX2 2014 Thailand Toy Expo Exclusive: 1/6 scale Taketa High Furyo Yuske 12-inch figure Review II

continued from previous post...

This is the 2014 Thailand Toy Expo AX2 Studio Exclusive figure made available only at the show. Limited to 50 pieces, 1/6 scale Taketa High FURYO YUSKE 12-inch collectible figure is fully handcrafted. As a result, AX2 Studio states that it is not as playable and exquisite as a mass production item. What it means is that the joints are quite loose and this figure cannot really hold poses well. But being an exclusive and limited item, I guess people won't really complain.

Having already shown the box and its contents in the previous post, this second-part review of AX2 1/6 scale Taketa High Furyo Yuske 12-inch figure shows him with his mask and the two swords he comes with. Other 1/6 scale items included with this exclusive but not shown in this post are the cross shoulder brown leather sling bag, hand carry black leather bag and additional palm / hand.

Review 1: 2014 Thailand Toy Expo Exclusive – AX2 1/6 Taketa High Furyo Yuske 12-inch figure

"Furyo" is the parallel universe of the Inu and Saru series, two largest clans who continue their destined war in the modern world.

At this juncture, I would like to apologize to fellow collectors / friends / readers / followers who might have been waiting for my review of a particular figure but have yet to see the post on my toy blog :( The thing is, although toy collecting is my obsession and blogging about toys is my passion, circumstances just doesn't allow me to post a review of every toy / figure I've gotten so far even though that's what I really want to do. So please be patient with me as I do my best to cover all the toys I've gotten. As the saying goes, "So many toys, so little time." Once again, sorry for taking a while to get to the reviews.

1/6 scale SAS CRW 12-inch figures released by BBI, Dragon Models, MC Toys, Medicom, Palitoy

continued from previous post...

SAS: Who Dares Wins!

Here are some of the 1/6 scale SAS CRW (Special Air Service Counter Revolutionary Warfare) 12-inch figures that have ever been released, with the Action Man SAS figures going all the way back to the 1980s. Up front and center is the latest released MC Toys M-035 1/6 scale SAS CRW (1987-2000) 12-inch action figure. He might be missing some stuff (like the ear defender and helmet but it's still very well produced with excellent parts and accessories, and would make a great addition for anyone who's just started or intend to start collecting 12-inch Special Forces action figures. DAM Toys will be releasing a 1/6 scale Spetsnaz FSB Alpha Group 12-inch Special Operations figure soon (pictures HERE) and there's the awesome incoming DID 1/6 scale LAPD SWAT 12-inch figure with Ryan Gosling head sculpt (preview pictures HERE). You can check out all the Special Forces figures I've posted in my toy blog by clicking on the "Men in Black" label.

My interest and obsession with 1/6 scale figures actually started with the Action Man SAS 12-inch figures. I saw them on display at a friend's house and was instantly hooked. They looked so intimidating and awesome in their all black attire and gear, peeking out through the gas mask and hood. That was around 1994 and soon after, I began collecting my own 12-inch Action Man figures. That was 20 years ago. Time certainly flies when you are having FUN :)

Preview Daredevil "The Man Without Fear" Premium Format Figure by Sideshow Collectibles

By day Matt Murdock is a successful criminal attorney, but by night, he guards the neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen in New York City as the masked vigilante, Daredevil! With heightened senses, the Man Without Fear charges past the broken ruins of a Lady Justice statue and into the night to combat the injustice he cannot tackle in the courtroom. The sleek and muscular hero is disguised in his fantastically sculpted iconic red costume with raised 'DD' logo and fabric details, wearing an expression of intense concentration under his distinctive horned mask. Skilled in combat and armed with his signature billy club weapon, Daredevil will do whatever it takes to protect and defend the innocent.

The Daredevil Premium Format Figure is an outstanding addition to any collection, perfect for any Marvel display. Product dimensions: 17" H (431.8mm) x 12" W (304.8mm) x 11.5" L (292.1mm).

One thing good about statues is the great sculpting. Bad things about statues are: expensive, non-articulated fixed pose cast in stone as if they have looked straight into Medusa's eyes, non-removable gear and accessories, not pose-able nor play well with others whereas 1/6 scale articulated figures with authentic costumes and removable weapons, gear and accessories can be posed side-by-side with other 1/6 scale figures, sometimes even in dramatic dioramas depending on the skill of the craftsman who makes the diorama scene. Still, Daredevil is very well captured here (IMHO he hasn't looked any better) with his determined expression and awesome pose.

These are the latest preview / prototype pictures of Dam Toys Gangsters' Kingdom 1/6 scale Spade J "Ogier" memories version 12-inch figure.

Check out OE (Original Effect) 1/6 scale Shadow Series Viola (SH-1) 13-inch female action figure

Is it me or has OE (Original Effect) run out of ideas for their 1/6 scale female figures that are 13 inches tall? This will be the third Viola figure OE will be releasing, having first released the Original Effect (OE) Army Attractive series 1/6 Viola 13.5-inch female action figure in 2013 (reviewed in my toy blog post HERE and HERE), followed by OE (Original Effect): 1/6 scale Army Attractive Vol.9 - Viola 2.0 Female Action Figure (previewed HERE) and now this: OE (Original Effect) 1/6 scale Shadow Series Viola (SH-1) 13-inch female figure.

OE (Original Effect) 1/6 scale Shadow Series Viola (SH-1) 13-inch female figure will come with Reborn Body (Blue skin), Viola’s Shadow head, Military coat, Gloves (1 Pair), Waistband, Corsage (with detachable collar), Skirt, Tight Stockings (with underpants), Hands. The pictures don't show her having blue skin and if she has blue skin, it only makes sense that her face will be blue as well (hence "shadow head") which also doesn't show in the pictures. What they do show is improvement on her previous wardrobe.

It seems like OE (Original Effect) actually listened to collector feedback and decided to right the wrongs and improve on what they didn't do very well the first time around. As mentioned in my review of the Original Effect Army Attractive series 1/6 scale Viola female action figure (femfig) HERE, the body was crappy and horrendous, the top kept slipping off, and the skirt kept riding up. OE seems to have corrected the mishaps by introducing a newer and much better 13-inch "reborn" body which I covered HERE, replaced the slippery top with one that has a strap that goes over her neck so that it stays up and a skirt with much more stretchable material so that it stays wrapped around the hips.

All Of Spider-Man's Costumes In One Perfect Infographic (Evolution 2) 1962 to 2014 latest

Seems like one infographic (see earlier post) is not enough to cover all of Spider-Man's costumes over the years.

The spectacular Spider-Man's full-body spandex suit is one of the most iconic superhero outfits ever designed. Even so, the writers and artists who have told his story for more than 50 years have tinkered with it now and again. The web-slinging wall crawler has worn black, white and armored suits — even a ruffled collar.

Mild-mannered Peter Parker hasn't always worn the tights, but the bug eyes, web shooters and commitment to justice remain the same (usually).

As Spidey swings back into theaters this weekend in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the hero has a brand-new suit with a few tweaks since his last outing. Check out 24 of his classic looks from the comic book page and the big screen below. (source: Mashable)

MC Toys M-035 1/6 scale SAS CRW (1987-2000) 12-inch action figure full kit Review II

continued from earlier post...

Britain's SAS are one of the world's premier Special Forces and have provided many countries with specialist training in both standard soldiering techniques and those of Counter Revolutionary Warfare or CRW. Even the Royal Hong Kong Police SDU (Special Duties Unit) were trained by the SAS, before the handover back to China in 1997. Check out the previously posted toy blog posts of the SDU here.

This was the standard Counter Revolutionary Warfare outfit developed by the Special Air Service (SAS) as part of the uniform for the special projects team. The special projects team is the official name for the Special Air Service anti–hijacking counter–terrorism team. It is trained in Close Quarter Battle (CQB) and sniper techniques and specializes in hostage rescue in buildings or on public transport. The team was formed in 1975 after Prime Minister Edward Heath asked the Ministry of Defence to prepare for any possible terrorist attack similar to the massacre at the 1972 Summer Olympics and ordered that the SAS Counter Revolutionary Warfare (CRW) wing be raised.

MC Toys has quite faithfully produced (replicated) the SAS CRW trooper of 1987-2000 in 1/6 scale and I must say, looking at this figure in pictures, you can be forgiven for mistaking this figure as a 1:1 scale SAS CRW trooper.

Dredd and his apprentice partner, Judge Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), are forced to bring order to a 200-storey high-rise block of flats and deal with its resident drug lord, Ma-Ma (Lena Headey).

Review Sideshow Collectibles Star Wars 1/6 scale Sandtrooper: Squad Leader 12-inch figure

May the 4th be with you :)

May 4 is considered Star Wars Day by Star Wars fans to celebrate the franchise's films series, books and culture. The date was chosen as "May the 4th" due to its sounding similar to the series' phrase "May the Force be with you" in which fans commonly say "May the fourth be with you".

So it's only appropriate that I should post something about Star Wars on Star Wars Day, right?

I decided to post an entry / review of the Sideshow Collectibles Star Wars 1/6 scale Sandtrooper: Squad Leader 12-inch figure. This figure was released some time ago and has since sold out and is no longer available from Sideshow Collectibles website. It's a very nice figure except for the crappy body. Since getting this Sideshow Star Wars Sandtrooper: Squad Leader figure, I've never taken it out of the box to take pictures until now.

Review 1: MC Toys M-035 1/6 scale SAS CRW (1987-2000) 12-inch action figure (Luke Evans)

The SAS CRW (Special Air Service Counter Revolutionary Warfare) was formed in 1975 after Prime Minister Edward Heath asked the Ministry of Defence to prepare for any possible terrorist attack similar to the massacre at the 1972 Summer Olympics. SAS CRW is trained in Close Quarter Battle (CQB) and sniper techniques and specialises in hostage rescue in buildings or on public transport.

In 1980 the SAS were involved in a hostage rescue during the Iranian Embassy Siege in London. The two SAS teams on-scene — Red Team and Blue Team — were ordered to begin their simultaneous assaults, under the codename Operation Nimrod, at 19:23 on May 5 after negotiations failed. The raid lasted 17 minutes and involved 30 to 35 soldiers. The terrorists killed one hostage and seriously wounded two others during the raid while the SAS killed all but one of the terrorists. The SAS raid, codenamed "Operation Nimrod", was broadcast live at peak time on a bank holiday Monday evening and was viewed by millions of people, mostly in the UK, making it a defining moment in British history. I remembered watching the footage on the news and from then on, the SAS, a regiment that was largely unknown at the time owing to the covert nature of its operations, was thrust into the public eye.

MC Toys M-035 1/6 scale SAS CRW (1987-2000) 12-inch action figure comes with 1/6 scale Real Like Head sculpt, 12-inch Action Figure Body, Gas Mask, Gas Mask Cover, Bulletproof Vest, Pigskin Vest, Aircrew Knife, Radio with PTT and Mic, Abseil Harness, 8 Type Drop Ring, D Ring x 2, Leather Belt, Leather Pistol Holster, Leather Triple Magazine Carrier, Leather 9mm Magazine Carrier, Green Sling, Leather Boots, Pilot's Gloves, Flashbang Grenade x 2, H&K MP5A3 SMG, 4 SMG Magazines, Sig Sauer P226 Pistol, 3 pistol Magazines, Blue Piece Suit, Shotgun bullets red x 10, Shotgun bullets blue x 10, Cable Ties x 2.

Evolution of Spider-Man costume from 1962 to 2014 Infographic by Halloween Costumes.com

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens today in Singapore and you can expect all the movie theaters / cinemas to be packed since it's also a public holiday. I for one am headed for the theater this evening for my "movie date" with Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker / Spider-Man), Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy) and Jamie Foxx (Electro). I was invited to the red carpet reception for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 cast which was held at Marina Bay Sands The Skating Rink, Canal Level followed by The Amazing Spider-Man 2 International Press Conference at MasterCard Theatre on March 27, 2014 and got pretty close to the stars :) You can check out my toy blog post HERE for the coverage.

There have been so many versions of Spider-Man with so many different Spider-Man costumes that it can get pretty confusing. Guess what? The creative team at HalloweenCostumes.com has created an infographic that shows the evolution of Spider-Man's costume from 1962-2014. This infographic is not comprehensive and is missing a few of the minor suits, but for the non-comic expert this should be more than cursory.

I think this is pretty cool and goes with the other costume evolutions I have shared previously, most recent being Captain America characters' evolution from the 40s to Winter Soldier (2014) posted HERE. Another interesting article was "Fashion Heroes - The Costume is a Superhero's Most Defining Characteristic and Stuck for Life" posted in my toy blog HERE

Scroll down to see the various Spider-Man costumes that have made their appearances. Click on the pictures for bigger and better views :)
