Toy soldier collection sold for US$50,000 (S$66,180)

And in yesterday's newspaper:

LONDON • A collection of miniature figures, believed to be the world's biggest, has been sold at an auction in England to an army of global collectors for about US$50,000 (S$66,180).

The figures belonged to Mr Carmelo Mazzotta, who collected more than a quarter of a million toy soldiers over a lifetime. Mr Mazzotta lived in the city of Bristol until his death in 2016 at the age of 55 from leukaemia. His sister Anita said her brother always wanted to be a soldier himself. Speaking to reporters ahead of the sale of his massive toy collection at the Wessex Auction Rooms in Chippenham, she said: "He was a bit of a Peter Pan. He never wanted to grow up. So, in a way, he was enacting his dreams.

"He was like a general with his armies. He could pinpoint where any particular soldier was, and he knew all the different regiments."

The collection took up an entire double garage with a mezzanine floor in Mr Mazzotta's home, and has grown over the years since he started his collection at the age of eight.

SCDF Exoskeleton to be worn by firefighters

The SCDF Exoskeleton, developed jointly with local engineering company Hope Technik and the Ministry of Home Affairs, was unveiled at its annual workplan seminar on Wednesday (April 18). A frame to be worn by firefighters, the Exoskeleton bears the weight of firefighting equipment and comes with pneumatic pistons that will help to push firefighters up when they are climbing stairs.

Looks like the suit we saw in the 2013 science fiction action thriller film Elysium is all too real. Damtoys’ release of Edward Kenway 1/6th scale collectible figure, protagonist from Ubisoft classic action-adventure video game Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, received much attention from fans. Since them, we’ve put our shoulders to the wheel to release the Assassin's Creed Altaïr the Mentor 1/6th scale collectible figure.

Altaïr, a Syrian assassin of the Middle Ages, earned the title of Master Assassin at age 25. He was tasked to destroy the nine-men Templar Order in the Holy Land. During the year-long task, Altaïr gradually changed his ways and liberated the Kingdom from their corrupted rule, but discovered an even more sinister conspiracy as the mission progressed. Upon killing the nine men and the Assassins’ traitor, then Mentor Al Mualim, Altaïr became Mentor, taking the Assassins to a new era.

Damtoys has specially chosen to use a 31cm tall, highly poseable body based on the CG character’s shape and proportion. In addition, it has an all-new head sculpt crafted based on the character’s facial expression to capture his aloofness and scarred lips, a carefully created long all-white Assassin robes and an equipment kit. The devil’s in the details - Daredevil’s signature red suit is sculpted with varied textures and panels, accented with black piping and a billy club holster. The sculpted polystone figure showcases Daredevil’s strength and agility, with detailed musculature and armor elements, giving the hero an updated look. Daredevil’s cowled, horned portrait is inspired by his modern suit style, as he focuses his super senses on the city below.

The Daredevil Premium Format™ Figure includes a fabric elastic wire that can be used to connect the billy clubs in several different configurations on and around Daredevil’s arms. The figure can be displayed without the wire for an additional presentation option.
