Comparison of 1/6th scale 12-inch Action Figure Bodies: Hot Toys, X-Series etc - which is best?

Charlie's Angels these guys are NOT ;p I just wanted to do a quick comparison of some of the 12-inch male figure body types that are available in the 1/6 scale market and show which ones are the most articulated and which ones are lacking in articulation.

I'm only showing three types but they more or less represent what is available out there because a lot of the bodies out there are all very similar with the difference being only in the brand name and price. Alpha Toys B001 Narrow Shoulders Bodies are exact copies of Hot Toys TrueType TTM bodies except that they are much cheaper without compromise on quality. There are also the X-series 12-inch Bodies with a three-part upper torso. Last but not least, Kaustic Plastik muscle bodies represent the more muscular built body types that are also available.

Muscular bodies were created for the purpose of posing figures wearing short sleeve T-shirts, tank tops or just to go topless. They work well for gladiators and gladiator type kitbashes because you do not want to see the ugly joints which does not add realism to the figure. Some prime examples are Hot Toys The Expendables 2 1/6 scale Sylvester Stallone as Barney Ross 12-inch Figure (reviewed HERE and HERE), Hot Toys "X-Men Origins" 1/6th scale Wolverine Collectible Figure posted HERE and Hot Toys 1984 T-800 Terminator Figure reviewed HERE. Gone are the days when Hot Toys produced bodies with seamless joint-lines i.e. joints hidden under skin which were much more realistic. Fancy a ride in a ZY Toys 1/6 scale WWII U.S. Army Military Motorcycle? Harley-Davidson?

Back in the early 1940s, the US Army asked Harley-Davidson to design a next-generation military motorcycle although the company was already producing the WLA, based on its traditional 45-degree V-twin engine. The army ordered a test batch of 1,000 XAs from Harley-Davidson. At the same time, the military also asked Indian to make a 750cc shaft-drive twin, and it came up with a 90-degree V-twin design. The idea was to put both new machines through their paces, and award a lucrative military contract to the winner.

Eventually, the army finished its testing, and decided that neither new bike would be built. Instead, they bought several thousand more Harley WLAs.

This is the soon-to-be-released (ETA February 2014) 1/6 scale WWII U.S. Army Military Motorcycle by ZY Toys made for 12-inch figures. It is quite nicely detailed with a number of moving parts. This is the Loyal Subjects x Hasbro Transformers Mini Series One Megatron Decepticon 3-inch Figure. He's part of a blind box assortment / case-pack of 16 figures. There are two Megatron Decepticon Transformer figures per case. These 3-inch Transformer figures are chunky, boxy and cute.

Megatron is a fictional character from the Transformers franchise, created by Hasbro, and based on a toy design by Takara. He is a sentient robotic life-form from the planet Cybertron. He is also the Supreme leader of the villainous faction (primarily the Decepticons) and primary antagonist in most works of Transformers fiction. He has the ability to transform between his robot shape and various weapons or vehicles, depending on which "universe" he is seen in. Within the fiction, he is often said to have named himself after the legendary Megatronus, and similarly inspired the name of a later villainous character.

Tony Stark is Iron Man even when he is without his armor, wearing MC Toys Men's Iron Fan set

This is the previously reviewed MC Toys F-027 Men's Iron Fan set OR Iron Man fan fashion wear for 12-inch figures with one wardrobe change: I switched the blue skintight jeans that came with this set for a pair of beige pants which are looser. I also added Iron Man's armor hands for that little bit of extra touch :) I like this a lot better now.

For those seeing this for the first time, MC Toys F-027 Men's Iron Fan set comes with Men's varsity jacket (with an embroidered Iron Man helmet / head on the left chest, red short sleeve t-shirt with iron man face plate right in the centre, jeans and leather boots. The 1/6 scale jeans is a little tight and I didn't like it and how it looks on 12-inch Tony Stark so I decided to switch to a looser pair of pants. I also felt that beige would go better with the whole look of the outfit since he also has a pair of khaki leather boots. The armor hands is a nice complement to the entire wardrobe. The Loyal Subjects x Hasbro Transformers Mini Series One - Starscream Decepticon 3" Figure

This is the Loyal Subjects x Hasbro Transformers Mini Series One Starscream Decepticon 3-inch Figure. He's part of a blind box assortment / case-pack of 16 figures. What's a blind box? A blind box is a type of packaging that completely hides its contents. Blind boxes are identical in every way and nobody knows which toy is inside. All figures in the series are displayed on the side of the box, along with the odds ratio of finding each one. There are two Starscream Transformer figures per case.

Starscream is a fictional character in the Transformers franchise. He is one of the most prolific characters in the Transformers fictional work, appearing in almost all incarnations of the story. Starscream is usually portrayed with the same characterization. Formerly a scientist, Starscream is a treacherous, high-ranking Decepticon who turns into a jet and is openly known to want to replace Megatron as the leader of the Decepticons. (source: wiki)

Review MC Toys F-027 Men's Iron Fan set i.e. Iron Man fan fashion wear for 12-inch figures

MC Toys F-027 Men's Iron Fan set comes with Men's varsity jacket, red short sleeve t-shirt, jeans and leather boots. Nothing out of the ordinary except for what is on the T-shirt and varsity jacket :) MC Toys F-027 Men's Iron Fan set is in fact 1/6 scale attire (fashion wear) for the 12-inch Iron Man fan. The jacket is red with off-white sleeves and an Iron Man helmet / head logo embroidered on the left chest area where a varsity's logo usually is supposed to be and the red T-shirt also has the Iron Man face plate printed on it.

So who would be the number one Iron Man fan? I guess that would be Tony Stark himself since he displays "textbook... narcissism" as described by Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) in her SHIELD Report on Stark. So what would a Iron Man fan wear? Scroll down to find out.

Review Mattel Batman Unlimited 7-inch Batman Action Figure as seen in "Beware the Batman"

Beware the Batman is an American computer-animated television series based on the DC Comics superhero Batman. The series premiered in the United States on Cartoon Network on July 13, 2013. The series is set during Bruce Wayne's early years as the Batman, following his initial period of battling organized crime. Over the course of the season, he hones his skills with the assistance of his butler, Alfred Pennyworth (who is a former MI6 agent. Mitch Watson, co-producer of Beware the Batman, explained: "He's Sean Connery from The Untouchables. The characterization of Alfred would be that of a man who was once in a physical condition on par with Batman, who was now in his 60s and past his prime, but still able to provide advice to Batman and be an ally when necessary.") Alfred's goddaughter, Tatsu Yamashiro, is Katana, a martial arts swordsmaster hired to act as Bruce's bodyguard, but also recruited to act as a superhero partner to Batman. (source: wiki)

I like Batman in almost all of his incarnations - from his original form in DC comic books to the campy 1960s TV series, to the animated styles seen in SuperFriends and all of the various interpretations since, including films, video games etc (except the George Clooney Batman with the nipples suit). The Dark Knight by Frank Miller took Batman to a whole new level and Tim Burton's 1989 Batman really brought Batman to the big screen. Of course, the recent Batman trilogy (what a rush!) by Christopher Nolan only makes us wonder how the next Ben Affleck Batman will pan out in 2015.

Spoiler Alert! If you haven't see Iron Man 3, stop reading!!
In Iron Man 3 which was released earlier this year, the Mandarin orders the attack on Tony Stark's home after Tony had issued a challenge in a televised threat to the Mandarin's terrorist bombings. The Mandarin's forces manages to destroy Stark's home with helicopter gunships. Stark escapes in an Iron Man suit, which his artificial intelligence JARVIS pilots to rural Tennessee, following a flight plan from Stark's investigation into the Mandarin. Stark's experimental armor lacks sufficient power to return to California, and the world believes him dead.

This was pretty much what Tony Stark was wearing when he "disappeared". In order to protect his loved ones while he investigated the source of the terrorist bombings, Tony stayed hidden and because he did not have sufficient power to use his armor suit, Stark is left to his own devices. This is a rather nice outfit and was really reasonable (going for SGD48) and looks good for using for kitbashing as well. You get two T-shirts (one short sleeve and one long sleeve), a hoodie, jeans and shoes (these are boot-feet type). Review: Marvel Comics Hawkeye 1/6th scale Costume and Equipment set for Captain Action

This is the Captain Action 1/6 scale The Avengers Hawkeye costume set from the Assemble-an-Avenger promotion that is possible if you have all six of the Round 2 Captain Action costume sets consisting of the Captain Action Spider Man Deluxe Uniform Set (posted in my toy blog HERE and HERE), Captain Action Captain America Deluxe Uniform Set (reviewed HERE, HERE and HERE), Captain Action Thor Deluxe Uniform Set, Captain Action Loki Deluxe Uniform Set (Thor and Loki briefly covered HERE), Captain Action Wolverine Basic Uniform Set (see my review HERE) and Captain Action Iron Man Basic Uniform Set (reviewed earlier HERE and HERE).

The Captain Action 1/6 scale Hawkeye costume set is put on a 12-inch Hot Toys TrueType figure (muscular body type) with a 1/6 scale Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton head sculpt. These Captain Action costume sets are designed for the new Captain Action figure but since I don't have any Captain Action figure, I had to use what was available. After all, these costume sets are designed for 12-inch figures.

Hawkeye (Clint Barton) is a fictional character and comic book superhero who appears in publications by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Don Heck, the character first appeared as a villain in Tales of Suspense #57 (Sept. 1964) and later joined the Avengers in Avengers #16 (May 1965). He has been a prominent member of the team ever since. Hawkeye is portrayed by Jeremy Renner in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a shared fictional universe that is the setting of films produced by Marvel Studios. Renner first made an uncredited cameo appearance as Hawkeye in Thor (2011) and later reprised the role in The Avengers (2012) and The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).

Though by most accounts Spider-Woman was originally intended as a one-off character for the sake of simply establishing trademark, Marvel Spotlight #32 sold unexpectedly well and writer / editor Marv Wolfman was asked to take the character to an ongoing series.

Preview OE (Original Effect) 1/6th scale Reborn body (female standard) for female figures

OE (Original Effect) will be releasing their 1/6th scale (?) Reborn female body for kitbashing collectors and those of us who are interested in an alternative female body to the ones being released by Phicen.

OE (Original Effect) 1/6th scale Reborn body (female standard) will come with a 1/6 scale head sculpt, 13.5 inch tall Body (33.5 cm in height from head to high heels), Interchangeable Hands x 8 pieces, Underwear, High heels (designed to fit in pantyhose or stockings). OE says the 1/6th scale Reborn body (female) can fit almost all sixth scale outfits as well as all of OE's female products. In addition, the limbs can be switched with machine / biochemistry limbs by OE in the future.

The OE (Original Effect) 1/6 scale Reborn body (female standard) may be able to fit into 1/6th scale clothing and outfit but do note that she isn't 1/6th scale herself. At 33.5 cm, or approximately 13.5 inches tall, OE's Reborn female figure will not be suitable for posing alongside all standard 1/6 scale figures which are only about 12 inches tall. Captain Action Line Expands – Tonner Gets into the Action with Lady Action 16-inch collectible doll

Foxbox Studio God Complex 1/6 scale Hermes, Hades and Inari 12-inch action figures together
