REVIEW II: Art-figures Navy Seal Special / Lt AK Waters (Bruce Willis) 12-inch Figure

continued from previous post...

This is the fully kitted out Art-figures: Navy Seal Special 1/6 scale AF Collectible Figure OR "Tears of the Sun" Bruce Willis as Lt AK Waters 12-inch ACTION Figure (especially since Bruce Willis is one of the ACTION MAN of his generation, and also the next). I had covered the box packaging of this figure and the parts as well as accessories included with this set in my last post. One of the fun aspects of this hobby is putting everything together :) It's like dressing up for the actual mission itself, only everything is so much smaller and some parts need the assistance of a pair of tweezers. Most importantly, PATIENCE is the key ;p plan ahead and do it right or you may have to undo everything and start over.

Having shown where the Art-figures 1/6 scale Navy Seal Special Forces 12-inch figure's 1/6 Ka-Bar Tanto Black Knife, SP4 Spec Plus Navy Knife, double magazine pouches, left-hand side drop-down pistol holster and AN/PRC-148 radio all go on his lower body in the previous post, now Lt Waters is decked out with the rest of his gear i.e. LCE (Load Carrying Equipment) consisting of H Harness webbing / LCE suspenders, Pistol belt with belt pad, 02 x ammunition pouches, M67 High-Explosive Fragmentation hand grenade x 04, water canteen and holder / carrier, and "butt pack" (2-day pack).

And here's a screen shot of United States Navy SEAL Lieutenant A.K. Waters (Bruce Willis) as seen in the 2003 American war film "Tears of the Sun" for comparison. A pretty good match IMHO

Here's a shot of the butt pack and H harness plus water canteen. When Special Ops commander Navy SEAL Lieutenant A.K. Waters and his elite squadron of tactical specialists first go into Nigeria to extract U.S. citizen Dr. Lena Fiore Kendricks (Monica Bellucci) from the erupting civil war, they did not expect to end up having to help deliver the villagers to political asylum at the nearby border.

They are forced to choose between their duty and their humanity, between following orders by ignoring the conflict that surrounds them, or finding the courage to follow their conscience and protect a group of innocent refugees. In the end, it is the latter.

Apparently "Tears of the Sun" is based on an actual mission of the Canadian Joint Task Force Two (JTF2) that took place in Colombia. An ex-member of the commando wrote the original story and suggested it when he met the production team of "Executive Decision" on a set in Nevada.

Lt Waters is armed with a M4A1 SOPMOD assault rifle with sling adapter plus M68 Aimpoint scope and M1911 .45 Pistol with suppressor.

For communications, he has the AN/PRC-148 radio

Emerson knives were used in the film. These knives are handcrafted and extremely popular in law enforcement and military communities. Lt Waters carries one close to his chest, attached to his webbing / LCE suspenders

To build camaraderie and a sense of working together as a unit, all the actors who played Navy SEALs had to go through a two week boot camp. During principal photography, all actors who played Navy SEAL characters were required to refer to each other by their characters' names, even off camera, so as to improve interaction among the SEALs.

One of the things of note is the 1/6 scale throat mic and ear piece which connects to the radio via a miniature headphone plug - very cool :) The throat mic is the most detailed I've ever seen in 1/6 scale. The actual throat mic uses vibrations in your throat to send verbal messages. It wraps around the neck and you can talk softly and still be heard.

I am very pleased with this Art-figures: Navy Seal Special 1/6 scale AF Collectible Figure of Bruce Willis as Lt AK Waters. This is my second Art-figures 12-inch figure, after the Art-Figures: SAVES AF-003 1:6 scale "Punisher: War Zone" 12-inch figure (reviewed earlier HERE) and if they keep this up, they have my vote as one of the outstanding 1/6 scale manufacturers and I'll keep on buying their products.

Nope :( I'm afraid Art-Figures didn't give him the USSOCOM Heckler & Koch Mark 23. They gave 1/6 Bruce a M1911 .45 Pistol instead.

See my previous post: http://toyhaven.blogspot.com/2011/08/art-figures-navy-seal-special-lt-ak.html

Even after a few years of its release I was still able to score this TOTS figure. Almost gave in to getting the DAM version but I liked this more based on the head sculpt alone. Beautiful figure and well worth the price.
