Preview Very Hot 1/6 scale USSOCOM Navy SEAL UDT 12-inch figure - he's no transporter

The Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT) were an elite special-purpose force established by the United States Navy during World War II. They also served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Their primary function was to reconnoiter and destroy enemy defensive obstacles on beaches prior to amphibious landings. They also were the frogmen who retrieved astronauts after splashdown in the Mercury through Apollo manned space flight programs.

The UDTs pioneered combat swimming, closed-circuit diving, underwater demolitions, and midget submarine (dry and wet submersible) operations. They were the precursor to the present-day United States Navy SEALs. In 1983, after additional SEAL training, the UDTs were re-designated as SEAL Teams or Swimmer Delivery Vehicle Teams (SDVTs). SDVTs have since been re-designated SEAL Delivery Vehicle Teams.

Almost 10 years after Hot Toys release of the SEAL UDT figure, Very Hot Toys has finally made a copy. VHT started out by making copies of Hot Toys' 12-inch military figures and they are still doing it to this day, proving that they can survive in this 1/6 scale collectible market simply by replicating, reproducing and rereleasing figures of old. Not content with just releasing 1/6 scale uniform sets in the past, this time Very Hot will be releasing this USSOCOM Navy SEAL UDT set with 12-inch figure. Before Hot Toys moved into movie-related figures and products where they have carved a niche for themselves as a top notch manufacturer with price to match, Hot Toys were releasing quite a number of military figures. The figures were all pretty loaded when they were released, carrying everything with them including the kitchen sink and this SEAL UDT figure by Very Hot is no exception, since it is pretty much a copy of what Hot Toys had done.

Check out who's under the hood? It's none other than 1/6 scale Jason Statham. Another 12-inch Jason Statham figure that was recently released was the Art Figures AF-010 1/6 scale Soldiers of Fortune 12-inch action figure "Lee Christmas" (reviewed HERE, HERE and HERE). My first introduction to Jason Statham was in the 2002 film "The Transporter" where he played Frank Castle, a highly regarded "transporter" in the underworld. He will transport anything, anywhere – no questions asked – for the right price. I have kitbashed a 1:6 scale Jason Statham as Frank Martin 12-inch figure earlier HERE.

Check out the pictures I took of some of my 1/6 scale combat diver 12-inch figures I had amassed in the early 2000 period HERE. It has been that long since a proper combat diver in diving suit has been released.
