Mattel Retro-Action Two-Face 8" Figure REVIEW

From one Two-Face (see my earlier post) to another...

Harvey Dent was Gotham City's district-attorney and one of Batman's strongest allies until Sal "Boss" Maroni threw acid in his face, hideously scarring him. It also fractured his mental state, causing him to become Two-Face, a schizoid criminal-mastermind obsessed with the number two.

This is the Mattel Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Two-Face 8" figure from wave 2 and this post follows after my earlier post on the Batman figure with removable cowl and cape (reviewed HERE and HERE)

Here's Two-Face out of the packaging which was designed to look just like the original cards that were released in the 70s and now considered rather "retro". Two-Face looks very much like the comic character from which he originated and his suit / outfit is rather bright colored as opposed to what Aaron Eckhart wore as Two-Face in "The Dark Knight" film.

The later suits that Two-Face wore in the Batman animated series are a more straight-forward white-and-black ensemble, with mostly white on the left-hand side and black on the right-hand side in order to make the contrast more obvious. I quite like this look as well. Everything is divided in half from head to toe, including his tie.

Here's the side with his scarred face. His former good luck charm, a "two-headed" silver dollar, was damaged on one side during the attack that ruined half his face, and Dent has seized on it as a reflection of his half-scarred visage. He flips it to decide the fates of his victims. Too bad no coins here.

And here's his good side. After Harvey Dent was horribly scarred on the left side of his face, he descended into madness and became obsessed with duality and opposites, and developed a second persona, the villainous Two-Face, to compliment the law & order obsessed Harvey Dent. As Two-Face, his trademark was crimes involving the number two. His obsession even shows in his clothes, which are usually composed of two halves made out of very different materials.

This is how Mattel Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Two-Face 8" Figure looks like without his jacket. The white-and-blue look of his shirt will become the white-and-black look of his suit / costume in the animated series.

And here's Mattel Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Two-Face 8" Figure standing side-by-side with the vintage Mego Penguin. Penguin came dressed with a stiff vinyl fabric tuxedo jacket, as opposed to the Joker's cloth one. The rest of his cloth outfit is painted on and is complete with standard black dress shoes. The Joker, Penguin and Riddler had been released in the original Mego line of figures so I liked that Mattel chose to release Two-Face instead as a villain to Batman. Good call.
