Check out R.E.D. MARK x INFLAMES 1/6th SWORD In THE WIND aka Guts 12-inch figure

Berserk (Japanese: ベルセルク) is a manga series written and illustrated by Kentaro Miura. Set in a medieval Europe-inspired fantasy world, the story centers on the characters of Guts, an orphaned mercenary, and Griffith, the leader of a mercenary band called the Band of the Hawk. Themes of isolation, camaraderie, and the question of whether humanity is fundamentally good or evil pervade the story, as it explores both the best and worst of human nature. Both the manga and anime are noted for their heavy violence.

Guts (ガッツ Gattsu) is a wandering warrior and former Raid Leader of the renowned mercenary unit known as the "Band of the Hawk" (鷹の団 Taka no Dan), who hunts demonic creatures called Apostles, humans who have made a deal with a group of archdemons known as "The God Hand" that entails sacrificing whoever or whatever is closest to them in exchange for incredible supernatural power. Guts himself bears a Brand of Sacrifice from this very ritual; he is one of the only people to have ever survived it, but still has demons ceaselessly drawn to him wherever he goes, with the Brand becoming more painful and bloody the closer and more powerful his adversaries are.

This is the soon-to-be-released R.E.D. MARK x INFLAMES 1/6th SWORD In THE WIND 12-inch figure which does bear a strong resemblance to Guts from Berserk. Medicom Toy has also released a Guts Band of the Hawk figure - you can see the preview pictures posted on my toy blog HERE. Dragon Models Limited (DML) had also released a 1/6th scale Berserk Guts Black Swordsman 12-inch figure way back in 2003 as a Japan exclusive. You can check out the review posted HERE and HERE.

Preview World Box 1/6th scale collectible Mortal Kombat - Scorpion 12-inch ninja action figure

"Vengeance will be mine!"

Hanzo Hasashi (波佐志半藏), now known as Scorpion (全蠍人, "Full Scorpion Man"), is a resurrected ninja in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. He is one of the very few original characters, debuting in the first Mortal Kombat arcade game. He holds the distinction, along with Raiden and Sub-Zero (in one form or another), of appearing in every generation of Mortal Kombat games as a playable character.

Scorpion is a hell-spawned spectre, inexorably seeking vengeance against those responsible for the destruction of his clan and the death of his own family. Scorpion appears human when masked, though this is merely an illusion. Only his skull remains when in his true form, sometimes ablaze. Scorpion's most popular and recognized skill is his famous spear attack, which is used to draw an opponent toward him. This attack will also stun the opponent for a short amount of time.

The World Box 1/6th scale Mortal Kombat - Scorpion 12-inch Collectible figure features: Three (3) head sculpts, each one is specially hand-painted. Approximately 30 cm tall Fully realized 1:6th durable body covered with Scorpion armor body, weathering effects on the figure. AC Play 1/6th scale US Police Uniform Set is meant for 12" Joseph Gordon-Levitt / John Blake

The Dark Knight Rises is a 2012 superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan, who co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Jonathan Nolan, and the story with David S. Goyer. Featuring the DC Comics character Batman, the film is the final installment in Nolan's Batman film trilogy, and the sequel to Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008). Christian Bale reprises the lead role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, with a returning cast of allies: Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as James Gordon, and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as John Blake: A young police officer whose instincts lead him to believe that there is trouble on the horizon. Seeing something of himself in Blake, Commissioner Gordon promotes him to detective. Blake represents the idealism that Gordon and Bruce Wayne once held, but soon lost in their battle against crime in the city. The film reveals his legal name to be Robin John Blake, an homage to Batman's sidekick in the comics, Robin.

For those who missed out on the Hot Toys "The Dark Knight Rises" 1/6th scale John Blake with Bat-Signal Collectible Set (previewed on my toy blog HERE) or just don't want to shell out what Hot Toys demands but would still like a 12-inch John Blake figure in their collection, you can get this AC Play 1/6th scale US Police Uniform Set and kitbash your very own John Blake figure. Check out Square Enix Play Arts Kai Star Wars Variant 1/7th scale Darth Maul action figure

Square Enix has announced that their next Play Arts Kai Variant figure is going to be none other than Darth Maul from "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace". Just like with other Star Wars figures the company has done, Darth Maul is a ‘variant’, meaning they added a special Play Arts twist to the classic character design.

Though, unlike many of the figures they have announced so far, Darth Maul actually didn’t receive that big of a make over. Looking at the images below, you can clearly tell that it’s Darth Maul very much how he appeared in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

Unlike the Square Enix Play Arts Kai Star Wars Variant 1/7th scale Stormtrooper (previewed earlier on my toy blog HERE) which looked very different for his film version, this Play Arts Kai Darth Maul doesn't look very far off from his screen persona, just like the Play Arts Kai Darth Vader (posted HERE). Personally, I am more excited about getting my hands on the Square Enix Play Arts Kai Star Wars Variant 1/7th scale Boba Fett which IMHO looks pretty awesome - see the pictures posted HERE.

This redesign of Star Wars Darth Maul is still a nice variation in keeping with the Play Arts Kai variant series started by Square Enix. The figure is currently expected to start shipping in August 2015 for approximately USD$125.

Comparison pictures of various 1:6 scale Wolverine figures from the different X-Men films

continued from previous post...

Here's a group picture of some of the 12-inch Wolverine figures I have. I wanted to show how different the earlier released 1:6 scale Wolverine head sculpts compare with the latest released version. It's nice to see the improvements made and the sculpting skills of the artists at Hot Toys. In the picture below, there are the two Medicom Toy released 1:6 scale Wolverine action figures right in front - Medicom RAH (Real Action Hero) Marvel Comics Wolverine and X-Men: The Last Stand - Wolverine. These were offered years before any of the Hot Toys Wolverine hit the 12-inch figure scene. Medicom Toy Wolverine (Marvel comics version) even came with an extra snarling Logan head sculpt - you can see the pictures and review posted earlier on my toy blog HERE.

The Wolverine in the center of the picture is actually a kitbashed Wolverine from "X-Men: The Last Stand". I managed to find a 1/6 scale Wolverine head sculpt and a "X-Men: The Last Stand" 1/6 scale Wolverine costume / outfit with claw hands separately but on the same day at a flea market for less than USD$100 so I decided to put this figure together. You can check out my earlier post HERE for more pictures. The other two Wolverine 12-inch figures at the back of the picture are Hot Toys Wolverine figures. There were fake "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" being sold on e-bay and Hot Toys cautioned people against buying the fake ones thinking they were original - see my post HERE

Square Enix Play Arts Kai Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain – Burning Man action figure

According to Metal Gear Wiki: Yevgeny Borisovitch Volgin (Russian: Евгений Борисович Волгин), also known as Thunderbolt, was a Stalinist GRU colonel, as well as the strategic operations commander of the Soviet Union, who attempted to seize control of the Soviet Union by overthrowing Nikita Khrushchev and installing Leonid Brezhnev and Alexei Kosygin in his place. Volgin was an extremely strong man, even for his large size. He combined his tremendous strength and skills with unexplained ability of electrical manipulation, gaining him the nickname "Thunderbolt" in the West.

In Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, an apparition appears that bears some resemblance to a demonic version of the then-long deceased Volgin. He wears a bandolier of bullets on his chest and a tattered suit very similar to the ones worn by Volgin in the latter stages of Operation Snake Eater (when his coat had been removed). The positioning of the bullets between his knuckles also confirms The Burning Man's identity.

This will be Square Enix Play Arts Kai 1/7th scale Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain – Burning Man action figure. The beautifully sculpted figure is based on a character from the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid V video game, which is due in September. The character is seen in the trailer for the game. The Burning Man includes pieces to display him naturally, or as if he is on fire. It includes swappable chest pieces, fire effects, multiple hands, and a figure stand. This figure certainly has a nice vibe to it. I don't particularly like the human heads sculpted by the Square Enix sculptors for their Play Arts Kai series which is why I stayed away from the line for so long but the figures with masks / helmets look very good.

Preview Square Enix Play Arts Kai Marvel Variant 1/7 scale Asgardian god of thunder Thor

Square Enix has now extended their Play Arts Kai Variant line to a third Marvel comic character (previous previews were of Iron Man - pictures HERE, and Spider-Man - posted earlier on my toy blog HERE) and that is Thor, the Asgardian god of thunder based on the Norse mythological deity of the same name. The company has officially unveiled its new take on Thor, and seldom has Marvel’s god of thunder looked so pumped, so angry and so heavy metal-like.

It's a rather interesting take for the character and closer to the comic book version than Iron Man was. Square Enix has given their Play Arts Kai Marvel Variant 1/7 scale Asgardian god of thunder Thor bulging veins, armor, and a hammer that’s half Thor’s height, in other words, HUGE. The swinging Mjolnir attachment and lightning effect are nice touches.

Square Enix is continuing with the Marvel line the same way they have gone with DC Variants and they are certainly giving us more options in terms of which action figure to get. Targeted for release in September 2015 for about USD$122, the figure also comes with three pairs of interchangeable hands, a plastic cape, swappable face and a display stand.

DID 1/6 'Miyazawa Kazuo' Imperial Japanese Navy Zero Fighter Pilot (International Version)

The Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service was the air arm of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. The organization was responsible for the operation of naval aircraft and the conduct of aerial warfare in the Pacific War. Japanese navy aviators, like their Army counterparts, preferred maneuverable aircraft, leading to lightly built but extraordinarily agile types, most famously the A6M Zero, which achieved its feats by sacrificing armor and self-sealing fuel tanks.

The Japanese pilot training program was very selective and rigorous, producing a high-quality and long-serving pilot corps, who ruled the air in the Pacific during early World War II. However, the long duration of the training program, combined with a shortage of gasoline for training, did not allow the Navy to rapidly provide qualified replacements in sufficient numbers.

The Kamikaze ("divine" or "spirit wind"), officially Tokubetsu Kōgekitai ("Special Attack Unit"), abbreviated as Tokkō Tai, and used as a verb as Tokkō ("special attack"), were suicide attacks by military aviators from the Empire of Japan against Allied naval vessels in the closing stages of the Pacific campaign of World War II, designed to destroy warships more effectively than was possible with conventional attacks. Kamikaze aircraft were essentially pilot-guided explosive missiles, purpose-built or converted from conventional aircraft. Pilots would attempt to crash their aircraft into enemy ships in what was called a "body attack" in planes laden with some combination of explosives, bombs, torpedoes and full fuel tanks; accuracy was much better than a conventional attack, the payload and explosion larger.

Hot Toys MMS264 "X-Men: Days of Future Past" 1/6th scale Wolverine 12-inch Figure Review II

continued from previous post...

If you were to google "X-Men: Days of Future Past", you will notice that Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) doesn't have that many poses for the film's promotional posters and the pose below is very close to one of those poses, although Wolverine shows more teeth on the promo material. This is the recently released Hot Toys MMS264 "X-Men: Days of Future Past" 1/6th scale Wolverine 12-inch Collectible Figure which is an authentic and detailed fully realized likeness of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in "X-Men: Days of Future Past". "X-Men: Days of Future Past" is a 2014 superhero film based on the fictional X-Men characters that appear in Marvel Comics. The story, inspired by the 1981 Uncanny X-Men storyline "Days of Future Past" produced by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, focuses on two time periods and Wolverine going to 1973 to save the future of mankind.

I covered the box packaging, contents and accessories in my first-part review in the earlier post HERE, so this second toy blog post is just to show off the figure in different poses. Hot Toys "Days of Future Past" Wolverine comes with an approximately 30 cm tall muscular body with over 30 points of articulations and you do get the articulations from this figure, unlike some other Hot Toys figures where the articulation is restricted by the fabric clothing / costume they are wearing. Wolverine's specially tailored future battle suit with armor parts allows his arms to move freely as the material used is a stretchable fabric. The armor parts are glued onto the costume and does not hamper his movements either. The main armor piece over his body is also not so tight and it does not restrict his mobility. Overall a pretty agile figure for posing and display. But then Wolverine is not Nightcrawler or Spider-Man so you don't expect him to get into extreme poses either. Even when he fights, it's always up close and bare claws. Not so much ninja moves but more animalistic and beast-like, especially when he gets his berserker rage on!

Square Enix Play Arts Kai DC Comics Variant 1/7th scale Batman figure by Tetsuya Nomura

Pre-order from Sideshow Collectibles

Tetsuya Nomura is a Japanese video game artist, designer and director working for Square Enix. He designed characters for the Final Fantasy series, debuting with Final Fantasy V and continuing with various later installments. He received the "Excellence in Visual Arts" award by the International Game Developers Association for his work on the first Kingdom Hearts game, alongside Shinji Hashimoto. (source: wiki)

This is Tetsuya Nomura's version of Batman. This re-imagined version of Batman looks more demon than bat, more final fantasy than comic book and more manga / anime than he has ever been. The very long and large ears does remind one of Zoltar, the main villain of the series "Battle of the Planets", an American loose adaptation of the Japanese "Gatchaman".

Square Enix Play Arts Kai DC Comics Variant 1/7th scale Batman figure by Tetsuya Nomura looks very heavily armored and instead of a cape, he has wings like a bat's, with extra arms that fold when the wings are retracted and extend when the wings are open. It's definitely something that I can see coming out of an anime but not very DC; more of a Japanese type of thing than a Western influence. With his wings, this re-imagined Batman obviously has no need for a Batmobile, Bat-plane or Bat-pod because any one of his vehicles / transport would have to be massive to accommodate his wings.

Review 1: Hot Toys MMS264 "X-Men: Days of Future Past" 1/6th Wolverine 12-inch Figure

Convinced that mutants pose a threat to humanity, Dr. Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage) develops the Sentinels, enormous robotic weapons that can detect a mutant gene and zero in on that person. In the 21st century, the Sentinels have evolved into highly efficient killing machines. With mutants now facing extinction, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) volunteers to go back in time and rally the X-Men of the past to help change a pivotal moment in history and thereby save their future.

Hot Toys MMS264 "X-Men: Days of Future Past" 1/6th scale Wolverine 12-inch Collectible Figure is an authentic and detailed fully realized likeness of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in "X-Men: Days of Future Past". It is Wolverine of the future so he has some grey / white hair and he wears a specially-tailored future Wolverine battle suit with armor parts, including knee armor and black armored boots. Of all the X-Men in the comics and movies / films, Wolverine is the only mutant who has been replicated most in 1:6 scale, mostly by Hot Toys. There were other X-Men in all the movies as well as super villains but we haven't seen any of them materialize. Professor X / Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) from 2011's "X-Men: First Class" almost made it but he got canned - Check out a picture of the 12-inch figure on display at STGCC2012 HERE

I guess Wolverine is the only figure that brings in the dough for Hot Toys as far as the X-Men is concerned. Money talks in the real world and the other X-Men just don't have the pulling power to warrant a space on the display shelf which is quite sad since many collectors would like to see the whole team assembled. Guess the only team that made it to completion is the Avengers. Every other team has fallen by the wayside after one or two members were released. It is looking like Guardians of the Galaxy will be missing Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) because nothing has been heard or seen of him and Hot Toys has been keeping real quiet about the whole issue. Well, as they say in show business, we have to get on with the show.

Check out Square Enix Play Arts Kai "Batman: Arkham Knight" 1/7 Arkham Knight action figure

Pre-order from Sideshow Collectibles

Arkham Knight is a new villain in Gotham and an antithetical version of Batman. He wears a militaristic Batsuit and an Arkham symbol on his chest. He is one of the main antagonists in Batman: Arkham Knight and seems to have an unknown connection with the Dark Knight. The Arkham Knight dons a militaristic version of the bat-suit meant to mock Batman's appearance. The inside of his helmet gives him a heads up display of his troops throughout Gotham and the ears relay his commands to his troops. By using the Arkham symbol on his chest plate he inflicts psychological warfare on Batman reminding him of the past Arkham events. The chest plate also acts as a countermeasure to the Batclaw.

Check out Square Enix Play Arts Kai Arkham Knight action figure from "Batman: Arkham Knight". From Square Enix: With mechanical armor and army fatigues, this figure shows off a wide range of different realistic textures. During sculpting we paid special attention to keeping a sharp silhouette all around. His helmet, that looks very similar to that of the BATMAN, has a translucent visor. There are two interchangeable helmet pieces: one to recreate his default appearance, and a second one painted so as to give off a glowing eye effect. Other accessories include: a sniper rifle, two handguns, and three interchangeable hands to allow for a variety of action poses.

I'm beginning to appreciate the figures that Square Enix are putting out in their Play Arts Kai series. I already got the Square Enix Play Arts Kai "Batman: Arkham Origins" Batman 10.5-inch action figure (reviewed in my toy blog HERE and HERE) as well as the Square Enix Play Arts Kai "Batman: Arkham Origins" Deathstroke 10-inch (25.5 cm) action figure review HERE, HERE and HERE so this one's going on the pre-order list as well :)

The only Kung Fu monks I know come from Shaolin temple in China and are featured in the many movies I've seen growing up in this part of the world. Shaolin Kung Fu, also called Shaolin Wushu is among the oldest institutionalized style of Chinese martial arts. Shaolin kung fu originated and was developed in the Buddhist Shaolin temple in Henan province, China. During the 1500 years of its development, Shaolin kung fu, with its rich content, became one of the largest schools of kung fu.

I'm not too sure who this Holy Man is supposed to be but he does appear to be a video games character created and developed by Tencent Games and is an officially licensed product being released by Very Cool.

Hot Toys Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope 1/6th scale Sandtrooper 12" Collectible Figure

At Star Wars Celebration last month, the Hot Toys 1/6th scale Sandtrooper Collectible Figure was shown for the first time worldwide! Many Star Wars fans were excited to see this trooper making his first appearance and were in awe of the great details on this Imperial soldier! Today we are very happy to officially present this 1/6th scale Sandtrooper Collectible Figure from the classic Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope!

The highly-accurate Sandtrooper collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of the Squad Leader on Tatooine. The specialized trooper features a meticulously crafted Sandtrooper armor and helmet with signature weathering effects, a highly detailed survival backpack, 3 types of blasters, a Patrol Droid as seen in the Special Edition of the film, and a specially designed desert-themed figure stand!

Sideshow Collectibles also released a similar Sandtrooper 12-inch figure and that wasn't too bad either. You can check out the review and pictures posted on my toy blog HERE and HERE. REDMAN TOYS 1/6th The Outlaw Cowboy 12-inch figure aka Clint Eastwood as Josey Wales

The Outlaw Josey Wales is a 1976 American revisionist Western DeLuxe Color and Panavision film set during and after the American Civil War. It was directed by and starred Clint Eastwood (as the eponymous Josey Wales), with Chief Dan George, Sondra Locke, Sam Bottoms, and Geraldine Keams. The plot is straightforward: Josey Wales (Clint Eastwood), a Missouri farmer, is driven to revenge by the murder of his wife and son by a band of pro-Union Jayhawkers—Senator James H. Lane's Kansas Brigade.

REDMAN TOYS 1/6th The Outlaw Cowboy 12-inch Collectible Figure will include: Head sculpt with Hat, Red scarf, Gray coat, Blue shirt, Brown pants with Brown Leather belt, Colt Walker 1847s Pistol x 2, Colt Army Pistol x 2, Colt Walker 1847s Leather belt with holsters x 2, Colt Army Leather shoulder holster, Cowboy Boots with Metal Spurs, 12-inch Figure Body with hands x 2.

I've always wanted a 12-inch Clint Eastwood as Western cowboy figure. After all, he rose to international fame with his role as the Man with No Name in Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy of spaghetti Westerns during the 1960s before becoming just as famous as antihero cop Harry Callahan in the five Dirty Harry films throughout the 1970s and 1980s. These roles, among others, have made him an enduring cultural icon of masculinity. I already have a 1:6 scale Clint Eastwood as Harry Callahan 12-inch figure released by Brother Production called Hard-boiled Harry posted on my toy blog HERE and HERE. It would be nice to act Wild West Clint to the collection.

VIKING “I’m Still Alive” Policewoman 1:6 scale Head sculpt and Accessory set aka Jill Valentine

Jill Valentine is a fictional character in the Resident Evil (Biohazard in Japan) horror franchise by Capcom. Jill made her debut appearance in 1996 as one of the protagonists of the original Resident Evil game, in which she is a member of the U.S. special police unit STARS (Special Tactics And Rescue Squad) trapped in a mysterious mansion along with her team partner Chris Redfield. Jill is featured in several Resident Evil games including Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil: Revelations, where she is in conflict against the shadowy company Umbrella Corporation and its splinter groups. Jill is also a founding member and key field operative of the paramilitary organization BSAA.

Jill Valentine first appears as one of two playable main protagonists of the original Resident Evil game (1996), in which she is an explosives expert of Raccoon Police Department's Special Tactics And Rescue Squad (STARS) and a partner to Chris Redfield. Jill's family ethnic background is half-French, half-Japanese, and she is a former operative of the U.S. Army's secretive special unit known as Delta Force, where she was an explosives expert.

Jill's plain clothes in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was adapted for Sienna Guillory's role as Jill in the film "Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)". This design was criticized by some as fan service unsuitable for the series' relatively serious theme. Maxim ranked Jill in this outfit as among their top six "video game vixens" in 2009, stating that "no one in the history of video games has ever looked sexier or more desirable."

VIKING “I’m Still Alive” Policewoman 1:6 scale Head sculpt and Accessory set aka Jill Valentine will come with: Head, Blue Tube Top, Skirt, White Coat, Stockings, Boots, Bag, Clips Bag, Gloved Hands, M9 Pistol, Tactical Holster. *Body not included.

Square Enix Play Arts Kai Batman: Arkham Knight 1/7 Harley Quinn Action Figure Revealed

Pre-order from Sideshow Collectibles

"It would be a shame to get blood all over my nice new outfit" ― Harley Quinn

A Blackgate Prison and Arkham Asylum psychiatrist initially assigned to treat the Joker, Dr. Harleen Quinzel instead became fixated on her patient, believing herself to be in love with him. She helped him escape from confinement and took on her own criminal identity as Harley Quinn. Quinn is a violent and unpredictable felon whose only motivation, beyond general mayhem, is achieving the Joker’s approval. Because of his cruel and mercurial nature, this in some ways makes her just another one of his victims - albeit a very dangerous one.

Harley Quinn appears in Batman: Arkham Knight as one of Batman's many antagonists, as well as being the second confirmed playable character in the game. She will feature her own unique gadgets and gameplay elements. She dons a costume similar to her appearance in 2011's Batman: Arkham City and also seems to combine that look with her "New 52" getup, along with a few friendly nods towards the nurse outfit from 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum.

This is Square Enix Play Arts Kai Batman: Arkham Knight 1/7th scale Harley Quinn Action Figure. The femme fatale figure features multiple points of articulation, three sets of hands, two head sculpts, a policeman’s hat, a baseball bat, a pistol, and a figure stand. Not bad for a character that started out on TV. Harley Quinn was created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini, based on (and created for) Dini's friend Arleen Sorkin, who provided the character's voice for the animated Batman television series "Batman: The Animated Series" which aired from September 5, 1992 to September 15, 1995, with a total of 85 episodes. The character was so popular that she was eventually incorporated into the DC Comics universe. And look at where she is now.

Preview DAM Toys 1/6th scale Gangsters Kingdom: Diamond 4 "Milevsky" 12" action figure

The next addition to the Dam Toys Gangsters Kingdom 12-inch figure series will be 1:6 scale Diamond 4 "Milevsky". And he looks a whole lot like Dolph Lundgren, even though the head sculpt is done in a caricature style, more animated than realistic but you can still tell right away who he's supposed to be.

Dolph Lundgren (born Hans Lundgren; 3 November 1957) is a Swedish actor, director, and martial artist. He belongs to a generation of film actors who epitomise the action hero stereotype, alongside Sylvester Stallone, Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Steven Seagal, and Jean-Claude Van Damme. Lundgren's breakthrough came when he starred in Rocky IV in 1985 as the imposing Russian boxer Ivan Drago. Since then, he has starred in more than 40 movies, almost all of them in the action genre. Sideshow Collectibles Star Wars 1/6th Deluxe R2-D2 Figure (Exclusive version) Review II

continued from previous post...

"Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983)" opens with Luke Skywalker and friends travelling to Tatooine to rescue Han Solo from the vile Jabba the Hutt. First the droids, R2-D2 and C-3PO, arrive with a holographic message from Skywalker pleading Jabba to release Solo, but they end up being processed as slave-laborers. Princess Leia Organa (in the guise of bounty hunter Boushh) also gets caught and is forced to become Jabba's newest slave girl, and chained to the dais as a trophy. Luke then arrives and he too is captured. Using C-3PO as a translator, Jabba sentences Luke and his friends to be taken to the Dune Sea for termination (over a course of a thousand years) by the man-eating Sarlacc at the Great Pit of Carkoon. En route, R2-D2 is tasked with serving drinks to Jabba's guests, and Jabba allows Leia to climb off his throne and watch her friends from a window while still chained to the dais.

This is the Sideshow Collectibles Star Wars 1/6th scale Deluxe R2-D2 outfitted as a drink server / beverage dispenser. Sideshow Collectibles (Exclusive version) Star Wars 1:6 scale R2-D2 Deluxe figure (droid would have been a more appropriate term since figure usually refers to a person with limbs) comes with many options and this is one of those. Having reviewed Deluxe R2-D2 previously (see the first-part review posted on my toy blog HERE) with its Highly Detailed R2 Series Astromech Sculpt, Rotating Dome with Articulated Projectors Ports and Hinged Panel Utility Access Ports plus Light Up Logic Function Display, Processor State Indicators and Holographic Projector as well as Articulated Terrain Tread Legs, I thought I'll show off R2-D2 with its Articulated and Retractable Third Tread Leg plus other features.

This is certainly a very nicely produced Star Wars droid by Sideshow Collectibles with all the ultra-cool features. I especially like the light up features which alternate between blue and red for the front and orange and green for the back. Plus you can switch the lights off easily with a light tab on the sensor switch which is hidden under the blue rectangular panel on the dome as seen on the left in the picture. Battery compartment and main on/off switch is cleverly hidden under the dome. The fact that you can use the included Skywalker Saber Hilt with Magnet Tip for Panel Access is an added bonus :)

Preview Sideshow Collectibles "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" 1/6th Scale R5-D4

"Come on, Red, let's go!"

Sideshow Collectibles presents the R5-D4 Sixth Scale Figure from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

He may be worn and faulty, but who could resist this loveable little astro droid? Slightly larger than his more famous successor R2-D2, Sideshow’s R5-D4 Sixth Scale Figure measures roughly 8.6 inches tall from antenna to treads. Appearing just as Uncle Owen purchased him from the Jawas on Tatooine, every detail of the R5 unit is faithfully replicated, from his desert-worn deco to advanced articulation. Nicknamed for his bright crimson accents, Red’s distinctive trapezoid-shaped head features authentic holographic details, and can swivel nearly 360 degrees, while a magnetic restraining bolt grants access to a variety of compartments and hinged panels. Notoriously plagued with malfunctions, he also suffers a pop-up “bad motivator,” a feature Star Wars fans are sure to enjoy. Destined to play a key role in a moment that sets the events of the original Star Wars trilogy in motion, R5-D4 is a must-have addition for any Star Wars collection!

The R5-D4 Sixth Scale Collectible Figure features: Highly detailed R5 series Astromech sculpt, Rotating head, Pop up 'Bad motivator' feature, Articulated terrain tread legs, Articulated and retractable third tread leg, Three (3) body compartments with hinged panels, One (1) restraining bolt. Measures 8.66" H (219.96mm) x 4.52" W (114.81mm) x 3" L (76.2mm)

Certainly not R2-D2 with light-up features and lots more accessories and features (see my previous toy blog post HERE of the Sideshow Collectibles Star Wars R2-D2 Deluxe 1/6th scale Figure) but for the Star Wars completist, a must-have to be added to the collection. Review 1: Sideshow Collectibles Star Wars R2-D2 Deluxe 1/6th scale Figure (Exclusive version)

May the 4th be with you :) Happy Star Wars Day!

"Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope."

And that's pretty much how the epic space opera began. A Tatooine farmboy named Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) intercepts a desperate call for help from two droids he comes in possession of and decides to rescue a princess (Carrie Fisher) in distress. He finds old Ben (Sir Alec Guinness) and together with Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) sets off on the adventure of his life!

This is the Sideshow Collectibles (Exclusive version) Star Wars 1:6 scale R2-D2 Deluxe figure (droid would have been more appropriate term since figure usually refers to a person with limbs) which I got in February 2014 - see my toy blog post HERE of my haul for that month. I've been wanting a proper 1:6 scale version of R2-D2 for the longest time and I'm glad that Sideshow finally released one.

Medicom Toy did release a 1:6 scale R2-D2 sometime back (pictures HERE) but the higher price and suspect scale (Medicom Toy have been getting the scale of their 1/6 figures all wrong for the longest time!) prevented me from getting R2-D2 then and I'm glad I waited. Sideshow even puts this clause when they sell Medicom Toy figures on their website. This is not a joke. It actually says: "Please note: The RAH series is highly detailed, very well articulated, and of exceptional quality; however, the RAH figure line is not in the exact same scale as the Sideshow Sixth Scale figure line. Figures may not be comparable in size and scale to Sideshow Collectibles' Sixth Scale figures."

Now, on with the review of Sideshow Collectibles Star Wars R2-D2 Deluxe Sixth Scale Figure (Exclusive version). Scroll down to see all the pictures. Click on them for bigger and better views.
