Comparison Pictures of Marvel Movie Super heroes and Villains vs Marvel Comics Characters

I came across these images on the internet comparing Marvel Movie Superheroes and Villains with their Marvel Comics Characters. If you were to tell me back in the 1970s that the comic books I was reading and the characters in them would be played out on the big screen in such a major way, I wouldn't have believed you. Now these characters have become quite a big part in our world of entertainment, raking in all that money for the movie studios. And we are just so eager to see all of them on the movie screens.

The costume is a Superhero's most defining characteristic and once published is usually stuck with the character for a very long time although they do get the occasional makeover and redesign. I really like how the costume designers in the movie universe create the costumes for the screen versions of the comic book characters. While trying to stay faithful to the original costumes because that's how we identify the characters by their costumes, the movie costume designers must make the actors look more real world than in the comic books where bright colors were added to attract readers. Plus the costumes have to be adapted to look like they belong in the world that we live. Gone are the days when there were bright red and blue costumes like those worn by Superman or Spider-Man, not to mention the campy look and style of the 1960s Batman and Robin. Check out the costume comparison pics below.

Let's start with Hawkeye (Clint Barton). Hawkeye is portrayed by Jeremy Renner in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hawkeye may be a superhero but he is totally human without any super powers, just like his compatriot Black Widow (Natasha Romanova), portrayed by Scarlett Johansson in the films Iron Man 2 (2010), The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and Captain America: Civil War (2016) as a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise.

James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, originally introduced as a sidekick to Captain America and portrayed by Sebastian Stan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The character is brought back from supposed death as the brainwashed assassin Winter Soldier.

Captain America was designed as a patriotic supersoldier who often fought the Axis powers of World War II and was Timely Comics' most popular character during the wartime period. The popularity of superheroes waned following the war and the Captain America comic book was discontinued in 1950, with a short-lived revival in 1953. Since Marvel Comics revived the character in 1964, Captain America has remained in publication.

Captain America wears a costume that bears an American flag motif, and is armed with a nearly indestructible shield that he throws at foes. The character is usually depicted as the alter ego of Steve Rogers, a frail young man enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum to aid the United States government's efforts in World War II. Near the end of the war, he was trapped in ice and survived in suspended animation until he was revived in the present day.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Captain America / Steve Rogers is portrayed by Chris Evans in Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, and the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Falcon (Sam Wilson) is mainstream comics' first African-American superhero. Falcon uses mechanical wings to fly. Anthony Mackie portrays Falcon in the 2014 Marvel Studios film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and reprises his role in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Ant-Man (2015) and Captain America: Civil War (2016).

One of the most iconic characters in popular culture, HULK has appeared on a variety of merchandise, such as clothing and collectable items, inspired real-world structures (such as theme park attractions), and been referenced in a number of media. Banner and the Hulk have been adapted in live-action, animated, and video game incarnations, including the 1970s The Incredible Hulk television series (played by Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno respectively) and in film by Eric Bana, Edward Norton and Mark Ruffalo.

An American billionaire playboy, business magnate, and ingenious engineer, Tony Stark suffers a severe chest injury during a kidnapping in which his captors attempt to force him to build a weapon of mass destruction. He instead creates a powered suit of armor to save his life and escape captivity. Later, Stark augments his suit with weapons and other technological devices he designed through his company, Stark Industries. He uses the suit and successive versions to protect the world as Iron Man.

In the comics origin story, Stark is injured by a booby trap and captured by enemy forces led by Wong-Chu. Wong-Chu orders Stark to build weapons, but Stark's injuries are dire and shrapnel is moving towards his heart. His fellow prisoner, Ho Yinsen, a Nobel Prize-winning physicist whose work Stark had greatly admired during college, constructs a magnetic chest plate to keep the shrapnel from reaching Stark's heart. In secret, Stark and Yinsen use the workshop to design and construct a suit of powered armor, which Stark uses to escape. The suit is the Mark I.

The Black Panther (T'Challa) is the first black superhero in mainstream American comics, debuting years before such early African-American superheroes as Marvel Comics' the Falcon (1969) and Luke Cage (1972), and DC Comics' Green Lantern John Stewart (1971) and Black Lightning (1977). The character is usually depicted as the king and protector of Wakanda, a fictional African nation. Chadwick Boseman portrays the Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War (2016) and is set to return in Black Panther (2018), both set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Pietro Maximoff / Quicksilver is the twin brother of the Scarlet Witch, and can move at superhuman speed. Two separate live-action versions of the character have been adapted by two different film studios. Aaron Taylor-Johnson portrays the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, appearing in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), while Evan Peters portrays Quicksilver in the Fox films X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) and X-Men: Apocalypse (2016).

Elizabeth Olsen portrays Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting in a mid-credits scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and playing a central role in Avengers: Age of Ultron and in Captain America: Civil War. She is the twin sister of Quicksilver, and can engage in hypnosis and telekinesis.

Thor is the Asgardian god of thunder and possesses the enchanted hammer Mjolnir, which grants him the ability of flight and weather manipulation amongst his other superhuman attributes. Chris Hemsworth portrays Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Thor, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Age of Ultron and will reprise his role in Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War.

Thor: Ragnarok is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Thor. In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor must defeat the Hulk in a gladiatorial duel in time to save Asgard from Hela and the coming Ragnarök. Thor spots a very different look here.

In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Vision is created after Tony Stark and Bruce Banner upload the AI J.A.R.V.I.S. into a synthetic body, which was created by Ultron as a body upgrade powered by the Mind Stone for himself. Although he does not explicitly side with the Avengers, he notes that he "is on the side of life", and therefore will side against Ultron with the Avengers. Paul Bettany portrays Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Paul Rudd portrays Scott Lang / Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Spider-Man is one of the most popular and commercially successful superheroes. As Marvel's flagship character and company mascot, he has appeared in countless forms of media, including several animated and live-action television series, syndicated newspaper comic strips, and in a series of films.

He was portrayed by actor Hugo Weaving in the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger.

Loki is the adoptive brother and often the enemy of Thor. He is based on the being of the same name from Norse mythology. Though normally portrayed as a supervillain, he is sometimes depicted as an antihero. Tom Hiddleston first portrayed Loki in the 2011 live action film Thor, and then again in The Avengers (2012) and Thor: The Dark World (2013); he is slated to reprise his role in Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and both Avengers: Infinity War (2018).
