"Black Hawk Down" is a 2001 American war film co-produced and directed by Ridley Scott and based on the book of the same title by Mark Bowden that depicts the Battle of Mogadishu (a battle that was part of Operation Gothic Serpent and was fought from October 3 to 4, 1993, in Mogadishu, Somalia). The raid was integral to the United States' effort to capture Somali warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid. Eric Bana portrayed Sergeant First Class Norm "Hoot" Gibson, Delta Force operator (based on Norm "Hoot" Hooten and John "Mace" Macejunas). [ source: wiki ]
