Review Very Hot 1/6 scale Mercenary uniform set (sand version) for 12-inch military figure

Another 1/6 scale Bruce Willis 12-inch figure? Why not since Bruce Willis has been keeping himself pretty busy with "The Expendables 2", "Looper", "Fire with Fire", "G.I. Joe: Retaliation", "A Good Day to Die Hard" and "RED 2". Because of Bruce Willis persona and his roles as an action hero who never seems to quit and cannot die, he has been the subject of quite a few 1/6 scale manufacturers and target of toy companies when making and releasing 12-inch figures.

This is just 1/6 scale Bruce Willis modeling the recently released Very Hot 1/6 scale Mercenary uniform set (sand version) for 12-inch military figure. Since the set doesn't come with a figure, I thought I'll just use this Bruce Willis 12-inch figure for the kitting up and display. The latest Bruce Willis figure released was the Art Figures 1/6 scale City Police 12-inch Figure reviewed earlier HERE and HERE. This particular 1/6 scale Bruce Willis head sculpt was a custom head I bought and used to kitbash a 1/6 scale Bruce Willis as John McClane 12-inch figure from Die-Hard 3 (You can view the pictures HERE).

But enough about Bruce. Let's see what Very Hot 1/6 scale Mercenary uniform set (sand version) for 12-inch military figure has to offer. By calling this a mercenary set, Very Hot doesn't have to be accurate in terms of the gear and equipment since mercenaries don't belong to any army and buy their stuff from all over. Hint: I bought this particular set mainly for the M40A1 sniper rifle. I'm going to need that when the DAM Toys 1/6 scale USMC in Persian Gulf War (Desert Storm 1991) 12-inch "Jarhead" Figure is released (see the preview pictures HERE). Scroll down to see what is included with this Very Hot set...

The box is very straightforward. Very Hot has managed to save costs by printing the same box cover for both of the 1/6 scale Mercenary uniform sets they are releasing (see the Very Hot preview pictures of both sets HERE). The picture below shows the entire set with uniform, vest, gear and equipment including weapons all laid out. This is certainly a great set for kitbashing or upgrading whatever military figures you already have.

Here's a close-up of some of the weapons included with this Very Hot 1/6 scale Mercenary uniform set (sand version) besides the M40 sniper rifle: two M9 pistols and one Heckler & Koch MP5SD3 with Retractable buttstock, "SEF" trigger group, integrated suppressor.

The M40 is a bolt-action sniper rifle used by the United States Marine Corps. Each M40 is built from a Remington 700 bolt-action rifle, and is modified by USMC armorers at Marine Corps Base Quantico, using components from a number of suppliers. The rifles have had many sub-variations in telescopic sights, and smaller user modifications.

Here's 1/6 Bruce Willis wearing the beanie / cap, sweater, pants and belt with drop-down holster and double magazine pouch.

Now a picture of the 12-inch figure as seen from the back, before he is loaded with all his gear and equipment.

Here's 1/6 scale Bruce Willis kitted out with Very Hot's 1/6 scale Mercenary uniform set (sand version) for 12-inch military figure. He almost has everything from the set on him except for some small parts and accessories but there's enough on him to make him look well equipped.

A mercenary is a person who takes part in an armed conflict, who is not a national or a party to the conflict, and is "motivated to take part in the hostilities essentially by the desire for private gain and, in fact, is promised, by or on behalf of a party to the conflict, material compensation substantially in excess of that promised or paid to combatants of similar ranks and functions in the armed forces of that Party".

As a result of the assumption that a mercenary is essentially motivated by money, the term mercenary usually carries negative connotations. There is a blur in the distinction between a mercenary and a foreign volunteer, when the primary motive of a soldier in a foreign army is uncertain.

Let's leave the mercenary out of the picture and just appreciate this 12-inch military figure as it is. I am wondering if this really is a mercenary, how does he get his hands on a USMC sniper rifle designed and custom-made specifically for the United States Marine Corps snipers? Oh well, just enjoy the figure for what it is ;p

Lots of nice parts and accessories that can be parted out and used separately if one so choose to since this set really doesn't cost that much. For one, the M40A1 sniper rifle will be needed when the DAM Toys 1/6 scale USMC in Persian Gulf War (Desert Storm 1991) 12-inch "Jarhead" Figure arrives :)
