Most of his famous work was made in the early 1980's in collaboration with Alejandro Jodorowsky, but his influence has continued in subtle ways right up to today, not least in the visions of science fiction films like 'Star Wars' and the 'Fifth Element'.
In 1988 Moebius worked on the American comic character The Silver Surfer with Stan Lee for a special two-part limited series.
The production design for the film "The Fifth Element (1997)" was developed by French comics creators Jean Giraud (Moebius) and Jean-Claude Mézières and is detailed in a DVD/Blu-ray special feature.

George Lucas used one of Giraud's designs for the Imperial Probe Droid in "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back". Lucas's later Star Wars films also share many visual characteristics with Giraud's work, particularly the depiction of the city-planet Coruscant.

I grew up reading some of the works by Jean Giraud (Moebius) and began collecting some of his artbooks with his beautiful illustrations. He left me with quite an impression. It's a sad day when another master craftsman leaves us.
