Equilibrium (2002) starring Christian Bale

Christian Bale played Grammaton Cleric First Class John Preston, an elite lawman in a dystopian, post-apocalyptic society. Equilibrium featured a fictional martial art style called Gun Kata, developed by Kurt Wimmer (writer and director). Equilibrium didn't do well at the cinemas but became a cult classic. Gun Kata was featured again in UltraViolet (2006) - written and directed by Wimmer, starring Milla Jovovich as Violet fighting in a (surprise! surprise!) dystopian, post-apocalyptic society.

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne

With "Batman: The Dark Knight" (2008) coming out this year, Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne deserves another look (covered here earlier). Chris Nolan & Bale definitely resurrected Batman after the horrific handling by Joel Schumacher (Batman & Robin, 1997). Bale's Batman (IMHO) is the best Dark Knight to grace the screen, a true interpretation of the character, both as Bruce Wayne & Batman.

Takara released this Gen-X Core version with Bale's likeness. He looks great only from the ankles up coz he seems to be wearing clogs instead of boots (horrendous decision by Takara in trying to make the figure more articulated).

Die-Hard 4 (2007): "Yippee-ki-yay!!"

Bruce Willis returns as John McClane, 19 years after the first film, and does battle with a gang of cyber terrorists, including the sexy Maggie Q, last seen in Mission Impossible III with Tom Cruise. Unfortunately, no figure of her is available :(

Produced by Subway, the quality of this outfit is amazing - true value for money!! It has the same quality as Saturday Toys.

Headsculpt's not the best though, quality lacking here. You gotta tilt the head certain angles to catch a glimpse of Bruce's likeness.

You also get accessories such as two police badges/ID, a cellphone,

Shades and his "leather" holster with pistol and two extra clips. Quality is stunning!

The "accessory" that takes the cake must be his underwear - LOL!! I've seen ads of padded underwear that enhances a man's physique but I never thought a 1/6 figure would need enhancements. Check out his boxers with the padded butt. Definitely first of its kind! What possessed the company to produce something like this is anybody's guess.

Other Bruce sculpts - Tears of the Sun and Die-Hard 3

Unbreakable (2000) starring Bruce Willis

Unbreakable (2000) written, produced and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, starring Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson.

Security guard David Dunn (played by Bruce Willis) survives a massive train wreck that kills 131 people unharmed and discovers that he is superhuman. David later discovers to his horror that Elijah Price (played by Samuel L "M*****F*****" Jackson) who had pushed him to be a "superhero" had in fact caused several terrible disasters, including the train accident that David was in, just to find someone who would miraculously survive as David did.

IMHO, the BEST bruce likeness ever. You can tell it's Bruce Willis from whichever angle you choose to view the headsculpt.

Other Bruce sculpts - Tears of the Sun, Die-Hard 4 and Die-Hard 3

Die-Hard 3 (1995)

Bruce Willis - John McClane" "Yippee-ki-yah!!"

I changed the headsculpt from my previous post. also upgraded the holster - this one's correct coz bruce is left-handed.

USMC MARPAT Desert Camouflage III

This USMC Force Recon figure was from BBi but outfitted with Hot Toys MARPAT digital desert camouflage BDU and boots.

He is equipped with the AN/PVS-7D NVG

USMC MARPAT Desert Camouflage II

When the Iraq war broke out in 2003, Dragon produced a lot of figures related to the war (The 2001 Afghanistan war was also quite covered as well). "Alden" is supposed to be from the 1st Marine Expeditionary Unit fighting in Southern Iraq in March 2003.

This time, Dragon didn't get it right coz the colour of the BDU is inaccurate.

USMC MARPAT Desert Camouflage

BBI followed up with this superb MARPAT digital desert camouflage figure "Cpl Tony Bishop" of the USMC Expeditionary Unit

He came with his cool AN/PVS-18 NV monocular and his M4 with Beta C-Mag 100-rd dual-drum magazine

USMC MARPAT Woodlands Camouflage

Not to be outdone by Dragon's MARPAT MCCUU USMC LRRP "John", BBi introduced Captain Arthur Fenton wearing the digital Woodlands camouflage.

A US marine isn't complete without his trademark KaBar knife

USMC MARPAT digital camouflage

The US Army have their ACU and the USMC have their MARPAT (MARine PATtern) MCCUU (Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform). In fact, they were the ones who came up with the digital camouflage in 2002 that is now the rage.

When the uniforms were first introduced, Dragon wasted no time in producing 1/6 scaled versions and the first of these was the USMC LRRP "John" in 2002 - another fine figure from Dragon. He came fully decked with his USMC MOLLE (MOdular Lightweight Load-bearing Equipment) which consisted of his FLC (Fighting Load Carrier) along with his main rucksack secured to a lightweight frame together with his sleeping mat and additional pouches. The whole system was so detailed and complex that the website had assembling instructions. I read in Cotswold that the one of their reviewers (himself a USMC) had to play an instructional tape issued to them in order to put the whole thing together.

Next up: BBI "Arthur Fenton" with USMC MARPAT Woodlands Camouflage

Kamen Rider The Next (2007)

This film was released in October, 2007 and continues two years after the first film ended. Kamen Rider 1 is now very much battle-damaged but still very cool.

Of course, the highlight of this movie is the new V3 - can't wait to get my hands on it.

Kamen Rider 2

Hopper 2, created by Shocker to defeat Kamen Rider 1. Ultimately, they team up to defeat Shocker's cyborg soldiers at their island base and rescue the girl. The new villians are ultra-cool too: Spider, Bat, Cobra and Snake appeared in this movie.

Kamen Rider 2 has Shocker's emblem on his back, evidence that he was under Shocker's control.

Kamen Rider The First (2005) with Cyclone

Kamen Rider The First (2005)

Kamen Rider The First premiered in 2005, 34 years after Kamen Rider premiered as a tokusatsu television series.

Medicom and BanDai co-produced this very nice action figure based on the movie which gave Kamen Rider No. 1 a very refreshing and updated look.
