DiD "Battle of Stalingrad, 1942" Preview

Hot on the heels of Toys City's announcement of their upcoming release of a WWII German Sniper military figure Major König (see previous post), DiD has released teaser pictures of their "1942 Battle of Stalingrad" pair of figures. Teasers because not everything is ready and DiD hasn't posted all pictures on their website. Now DiD is competing with Toys City!! The Battle for Stalingrad 12-inch military figures has indeed begun.

The Battle of Stalingrad was a major battle of World War II in which Nazi Germany fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad (now Volgograd) in southwestern Russia. The battle took place between 17 July 1942 and 2 February 1943, and is often cited as one of the turning points of the war. The battle was the bloodiest in the history of warfare, with combined casualties estimated at nearly two million.

"Enemy at the Gates (2001)", a war film directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, starring Jude Law, Joseph Fiennes and Ed Harris was set during the Battle of Stalingrad.

DiD's 1:6 version of Major König, World War II German Sniper 12-inch military figure

Wehrmacht sniper Major Erwin König was played by Ed Harris in the fictionalized account of the duel in the movie "Enemy at the Gates (2001)". The head sculpt by DiD bears a striking resemblance to Ed Harris in this early stage and can only get better as they tweak it before its release.

Soviet sniper Vasily Grigoryevich Zaitsev was played by Jude Law (most recently seen in the 2009 film "Sherlock Holmes" as Dr John Watson, alongside Robert Downey Jr as Holmes) and the 2001 film "Enemy at the Gates" was based on a duel mentioned in William Craig's 1973 non-fiction book "Enemy at the Gates: The Battle for Stalingrad between Soviet sniper Vasily Grigoryevich Zaitsev and his German counterpart, Major Erwin König, as they stalk each other during the battle. The movie is also partially based on another book "War of the Rats".

Wow!! both companies release the same characters. Now it's up to collectors' choice. I have the Dragon Jude Law (Soviet Sniper) for a long time :)

Out of curiosity, Alex (since this post casually relates to Jude Law)-has any company made a Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow figure?
You're the Guru- I figure if anyone should know, it'd be you!

Aww man....I'd definitely be tempted to get both Law AND Harris for sure...one can't live without the other....LOL!

I'm thinking "Sherlock Holmes" kitbash figures! We'd be getting the ultra cool Tony Stark headsculpt soon frm the Mech Test set!

They got Ed's likeness spot on but not for Jude. I still like Dragon's version of Jude...but I think DID's accessories will be much better.
I hope it is not going to be a 1 pack cause I will only pick up the Major.

Ah for me any Hot Toys headsculpt is always well done.
But is it a Jude Law copy, i would say it is a Teen idol jude law version (i think!) :)
well Hot toys always make a slight modification on the sculpt due to copyright issues.
