Review III Sideshow Exclusive DC Comics 1/6th scale Blue & Gray Batman 12" collectible figure

You can order this from Sideshow Collectibles

continued from previous post...

This is the Sideshow Collectibles DC Comics 1/6th scale Blue & Gray Batman 12-inch figure Exclusive version with the extra Brawl Damage Portrait. The great thing about Sideshow Exclusives is that they don't cost more than the regular version; you only have to order it first as they are limited in numbers. This was the first figure I ever ordered directly from Sideshow Collectibles. All my previous Sideshow Collectibles figures have been bought locally though the retail stores and they were not exclusive figures. I wanted this alternate head sculpt of battle damaged Batman because it's unique as it isn't very often you see Batman in this situation.

Who would be able to inflict this kind of damage to Batman? A few villains come to mind and Bane is right up there on the list. After all, Bane was the supervillain who broke Batman in the comic books (Batman #497, July 1993) and he did it again most recently in the 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises with Tom Hardy playing the role of Bane.

But interestingly enough, a superhero could inflict this kind of damage on Batman and he would be one of Batman's greatest ally. In "The Dark Knight Returns", a 1986 four-issue comic book miniseries starring Batman, written by Frank Miller, illustrated by Miller and Klaus Janson, 55-year-old Bruce Wayne returns from retirement to fight crime and faces opposition from the Gotham City police force and the United States government. The President orders Superman to remove Batman and the two superheroes duke it out in Crime Valley. From the recent teasers for the Superman film sequel, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", it seems to suggest that this confrontation will take place on the big screen in 2016.

So here you have Sideshow Collectibles DC Comics 1/6th scale Blue & Gray Batman 12-inch figure Exclusive version with the extra Brawl Damage Portrait and Kryptonite ring fist which is included as part of this set (see my first part review HERE of the box packaging and contents). I felt it was most appropriate to pose the Brawl Damage Portrait / head sculpt with the kryptonite ring.

The extra Brawl Damage Portrait which comes with the Exclusive version is the Bat-cowl with the long ears version. I have already reviewed the short ears version in my toy blog posts earlier HERE and HERE. Sideshow Collectibles DC Comics 1/6th scale Blue & Gray Batman 12-inch figure comes with: New 12-inch fully articulated Batman Body (with bulging muscles), One (1) short ears Batman portrait, One (1) long ears Batman portrait. Detailed belt with pouches. Sideshow Exclusive: Brawl Damage Portrait (long ears version).

The new 12-inch body is great for posing and much more stable than the previous weak ankled "drop on a whim" bodies which Sideshow used to provide for their sixth scale figures. I guess Sideshow was going for the comic book Batman look with the muscular body frame befitting of someone whose skills were honed through years of training and lifting weights to build strength and endurance. Batman is one of those few superheroes who do not have super powers.

A closer look at the Sideshow Exclusive Brawl Damage Portrait.

After discovering that the villain Metallo was powered by a heart made of Kryptonite, Lex Luthor used a sample to fashion a Kryptonite ring for himself. He wore the ring at all times in an effort to keep Superman away from him. The ring eventually came into the possession of Batman. Although Bruce is Superman's closest ally, he keeps the ring secured in the Batcave in case Superman ever loses control of his powers or if he falls under the control of an evil influence (such as Eclipso). On several occasions, Batman has been required to use the ring to keep Superman at bay.

I think it's nice that Sideshow Collectibles included this fist with Kryptonite ring as part of the various alternate posed hands. To see the other included hands, check out my part 1 review HERE.

Alex, I dig this figure but the 'lump' in the crotch is kinda off-putting. Obviously Bats is REALLY enjoying the fight... :.::
