Review Medicom RAH Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol 1/6th Ethan Hunt 12" Collectible Figure

Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions’ Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, the 5th installment in the $2.1B franchise, took flight overseas on Thursday with rollout beginning in such key markets as Korea, the UK, Mexico and Australia. The opening gross through Friday is a muscular $26.4M and the offshore frame is on track for about $60M. Coupled with an expected domestic debut of $52.5M, Rogue has lit the fuse towards a $112M opening worldwide session. In total this weekend, Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt is tackling The Syndicate in 40 markets repping about 40% of the international footprint — in 20 of those markets, Rogue Nation is the star’s best bow ever.

In comparison, the last film in the M:I franchise, Ghost Protocol, was Cruise’s biggest ever offshore hit with over $485M. It took over $50M in Korea which was the title’s 3rd biggest market outside the U.S. 53-year old Cruise can play Ethan Hunt for as long as he cares to risk his life with stunts no other superstar would dare try. For Rogue Nation, he was strapped to the exterior door of an airborne jet plane, and everyone in the cast and crew prayed that he would be still tethered when the take is done and the plane lands. For Ghost Protocol, Tom had no qualms about scaling 124 floors outside of the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai UAE, which is the world's tallest building, without the use of a stunt double.

This is the Medicom Toy RAH (Real Action Heroes) 1/6th scale "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" Ethan Hunt 12-inch Collectible Figure released in 2013. This figure retailed at USD$299.99 and has sold out at Sideshow Collectibles but I managed to snag one for just USD$110 which is the price I'm most willing to fork out for a Medicom Toy figure. Medicom Toy figures have always been expensive and IMHO they are not even value-for-money when you compare them with Hot Toys figures although I have amassed quite a number of Medicom Toy figures in my toy collecting journey. In my defence, that was before Hot Toys were even in the market and at the time, Medicom Toy was the only company producing 1/6th scale movie-related merchandise / collectible for adults.

The box cover itself is a picture of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) hanging 124 floors up outside the Burj Khalifa tower which was one of the jaw dropping scene in the 2011 action spy thriller "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol". Cruise appears to be free solo climbing in the film with the help of special gloves. The back of the box packaging shows the figure you are getting which is Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) in the attire he wore just prior to his climb of the Burj Khalifa tower in Dhubai.

The box inner flap gives a summary of the film: Blamed for the terrorist bombing of the Kremlin, IMF operative Ethan Hunt is disavowed along with the rest of the agency when the President initiates "Ghost Protocol". Left without any resources or backup, Ethan must find a way to clear his agency's name and prevent another attack.

The special climbing gloves are quite well produced with nice details as compared to the Brothers Production Presents 1/6th scale Final Mission 12-inch figure which is also Tom Cruise as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt as seen in the 2011 film Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (pictures HERE).

On Sideshow Collectibles website where this figure was sold is this NOTE: "The RAH series is highly detailed, very well articulated, and of exceptional quality; however, the RAH figure line is not in the exact same scale as the Sideshow Sixth Scale figure line. Figures may not be comparable in size and scale to Sideshow Collectibles' Sixth Scale figures." What it means is that Medicom Toy 1:6 scale figures are shorter than all other companies' 1:6 scale figures and that's one of the problems I have with Medicom Toy figures which is the scale inaccuracy. But since Tom Cruise is rather short for an actor, I guess it would make this Medicom RAH Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol 1/6th Ethan Hunt Collectible Figure correct in terms of scale (height-wise). Below is a picture comparing the Medicom RAH Ethan Hunt on the left with the Brothers Production Presents 1/6th scale Final Mission 12-inch figure on the right.

Overall, I like this Medicom Toy RAH (Real Action Heroes) 1/6th scale "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" Ethan Hunt 12-inch Collectible Figure and I'm very happy with the price I paid for him (USD$110 instead of USD$299.99) as I wouldn't be able to justify paying more as it won't be value-for-money.

You can also check out the Brothers Production Presents 1/6th scale Final Mission 12-inch figure a.k.a. Tom Cruise as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt in MI4: Ghost Protocol posted on my toy blog with reviews plus lots of pictures of said figure HERE, HERE and HERE.
