Very Hot 12-inch SDU series Preview

The Special Duties Unit (Abbreviation: SDU; Chinese: 特別任務連, nicknamed Flying Tigers 飛虎隊) is an elite paramilitary police Special Forces unit of the Hong Kong Police. Established in July 1974, it is a sub-division of the Police Tactical Unit (PTU). Its primary functions include counter-terrorism, anti-narcotic raids, hostage rescue and other crimes (usually involving firearms) which are deemed too dangerous for local police to handle. The unit holds regular training exercises with similar units from around the world and used to be trained by the British SAS before the handover of Hong Kong to China.

Very Hot will be releasing a three-figure SDU series for those who'd missed out on the earlier releases due to joining the 1/6 hobby after all these had been snapped up by eager new collectors.

SDU-1 Attacker

SDU-2 Breaker

SDU-3 Defender

The SDU became well known in 1994 when the Hong Kong movie "Final Option" was released. This was followed by "First Option" and "New Option", a series of movies starring Michael Wong as the brash troop leader of a SDU platoon.

I cant seem to find it on TFH's online catalogue. Do you specially request them to import from hottoys.com?

I usually pre-order my stuff with TFH so that I can be assured the figure will arrive and I will get what I want. Hot Toys figures are especially HOT and in HIGH demand so once the figures are released, there may never be enough to go around, especially for those who had not pre-ordered them. TFH doesn't carry much old stocks because their orders are always filled. For old figures like the one you mentioned, one of the best place to look for them is China Square Central as the shops there do look out for old stuff to sell and sometimes, on Sundays, some of the Flea Market stallholders may have one or two of the older figures to sell as well. All the BEST

hey alex, any idea when these would be out in stores?

Damn you Alex!! Just when I think my bank account can take a breather 'cause there's nothing to add to my 'must-have' list, you come along and show us this!

p.s. can you tell me if these kits will fit a true type figure? Phew, that blows the cost out a bit, but I'm sure I will find some way of justifying it...

Not to be a buzz-kill, but haven't we seen all of this before?

alex teo said...

Hi Dex, Lucien - no news from my distributor yet as to when these will be released - sorry :(

@Lucien, I'm pretty sure these would fit a true type body except I don't think the True Type body comes with bendable fingers so putting on the gloves might be a problem as the gloves are designed for bendy fingers.
A lot more work to put the gloves on the molded hands - difficult but not impossible - PATIENCE is the key and lots of it ;p CHEERS

@convenant - these aren't new and Dragon, Hot Toys and a few other 1/6 companies (including Very Hot themselves) have indeed released these before BUT that was some time ago. New collectors would be keen to get their hands on these and if there's a market, I say "Why not?" beats seeing WWII Germans AGAIN

Bro, will you get these sets?

these sets look really GREAT for kitbashing or used as it is & given Very Hot's low prices, they do seem value for money. i'm still considering ;p
