Seen @ STGCC 2010: Star Wars

The 2010 Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention (STGCC) started today at the Suntec International Convention Centre, Hall 401 and 402. There are many exhibitors, illustrators, and all things to do with Toys, Games and Comics at the convention from today Dec 10 till Sunday December 12, 2010. Among the many exhibitions and themes at the STGCC 2010, Star Wars certainly made their presence felt! You can feel the force with these ones :)

The guys from the 501st Legion (Singapore Garrison) were there and there's even a moving, talking, flashing lights 1:1 scale R2-D2 for photo-taking opportunity. This year, there's even a proper backdrop for a more screen-realistic picture.

And then there are these awesome displays for all to see. The diorama is HUGE. There's a whole hangar set-up and another of the epic battle that took place on on the remote ice planet Hoth.

All these were played out in "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" which is set three years after the original "Star Wars" film. "The Empire Strikes Back" was released on May 21, 1980 and this year is the 30th anniversary of the film. Sadly, the director Irvin Kershner recently passed on. He was best known for directing "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" and "Never Say Never Again".

The Imperial forces land their ground assault walkers beyond the energy shield and Luke leads his squadron of flying speeders into battle. The Rebels have set up infantry trenches and an energy shield to protect them from the Empire's orbital bombardment.

These are Lego Star Wars Imperial Walkers. "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" introduced the All Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT) and All Terrain Scout Transport (AT-ST) and as a teenage boy watching the scene unfold for the first time on the big screen back in 1980, it was such an awesome experience. It was a sight to behold watching the lumbering giant walkers advance towards the rebel held defense line.

And behind the rebel forces holding off the Imperial troops is the hangar where there is a buzz of activity as everyone prepares to leave the planet. These are the Star Wars 3 3/4" action figures based on the movie with the vehicle sets added to complete the diorama

Right at the back is the huge Star Wars Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon. Measuring 2ft (more than 60cm) wide and more than 2 1/2ft (80cm) long, it is an amazing vehicle / space ship and I've covered this space-craft in an earlier post. You can read the FULL REVIEW here and check out the pictures I took of the many wonderful and fun aspects of this particular toy.

So this is one of the many exciting stuff I saw at the STGCC 2010, now on at Suntec Hall 401 and 402 till Sunday, 12 December 2010. You have to see it for yourself to see the scale of this display and the many other things happening as well. I'll cover some other aspects of STGCC that caught my interest in the next few posts.
