Or light-up features of Hot Toys Iron Patriot die-cast figure
What's the point of having an Iron Man (or in this case Iron Patriot) figure and not have light-up features? It's so cool to have a 12-inch figure that lights up just like in the movie and Hot Toys has done just that . From the very beginning, their 1/6 scale Iron Man collectible figures have had the light-up features but the major problem was leaking batteries. If the batteries are left in the compartment for too long when not in use, they start to leak and damage the electrical components, rendering the figure totally useless in the light-up feature department and you wouldn't want that to happen Check out my post from September 2011 titled: -. "Hot Toy Collecting Tip # 1 Remove ALL Batteries!" link HERE .
What Hot Toys has DONE to Prevent leaking Batteries in the Figure is to pack all the Batteries separately in in so that even if the leak Batteries, They do Not Damage the Electrical Components of the Figure. Previous Post Toy See my blog HERE to see How the Batteries are packed and stored in the box.
This recently released Hot Toys MMS195-D01 Movie Masterpiece Series Die-cast 1/6th scale Iron Patriot 12-inch Collectible Action Figure comes with a 12-page User Guide booklet with lots of instructions from putting in the batteries to adjusting the figure for better articulation. Instead of showing you the contents of the Hot Toys Iron Patriot instruction booklet, I thought I'll just show you where the batteries are meant to go on the figure (ie the battery compartments) and where the ON / OFF switches are located.

Top and bottom pictures are Hot Toys "Iron Man 3" 1/6th scale Die-cast Iron Patriot 12-inch Collectible Action Figure with LED lights switched on. The picture at the bottom is more obvious, showing off the lights feature which are actually quite bright but compromising on the figure's details in the shot.
Hot Toys chose to market their Die-cast Iron Patriot figure as a battle worn version ie there are scratches on the metallic body paint to denote the battles it has been to and back. In this way, the figure does not have to be in pristine tip top mint condition and can be forgiven for the dings it receives during handling since it is already weathered to be in used condition. I think it will be a big headache for Hot Toys if they had marketed this figure as a brand new just off the shelf / factory figure because being a die-cast figure, inadvertently it is bound to get dings and paint scratched off so there is no way one can maintain the figure as brand new and untouched. Good move on Hot Toys part. Now everybody can enjoy the figure without worrying about paint chipping off.
The batteries and on / off switch for the LED light-up eyes are located at the top of Iron Patriot's head / helmet (see the next picture below). Although a screw driver is provided by Hot Toys, I had to use my own because the one provided by Hot Toys didn't seem to work. The screw for the head / helmet battery compartment is more tricky because the head is curved.
The four areas that light up on the Iron Patriot figure are: eyes, chest and the two palms
The on / off switch for the left palm repulsor light is located underneath the forearm armor which has to be removed (see picture below). This same left forearm armor is interchangeable with the alternate forearm armor with machine gun deployed (shown in the part 1 review posted HERE ). The next picture Shows the Same Left arm with the Switch now hidden underneath the Detachable Forearm Armor.
The batteries for the left arm repulsor lights are located in the back of the upper arm where the triceps brachii muscle would be.
Battery compartment for the LED light-up micro arc reactor on chest is located on the upper back. You have to remove the back armor before you can put in the batteries and switch the light on. Similarly with the left arm, the batteries for the right arm repulsor lights are located in the back of the upper arm where the triceps brachii muscle would be. NOTE: The on / off switch for the right arm lights are located at a different place.
The on / off switch for the right repulsor palm can be located after removing the back forearm amor. The picture above shows the particular piece of forearm armor which is missing from the picture below.
This Hot Toys "Iron Man 3" 1/6th scale Die-cast Iron Patriot 12-inch Collectible Action Figure is really a very nice figure and the die-cast element does add a certain weightiness to the figure. The metallic red, white and blue star spangled armor paint work enhances it even further. Knowing that this is not a plastic figure but die-cast makes the armor seem more real.
The last light-up feature is found in the circular figure display stand with Iron Patriot nameplate and movie logo. It requires three AAA batteries which are NOT included. The battery compartment is located under the stand. The stand also comes with a pillar and figure holding clip.
And the picture below shows how the stand lights up.
