My October 2014 / Birthday Haul: Spider-Man, Venom, Nova and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

So what did I get for my birthday? Would you believe it if I told you I didn't get anything 1/6th scale on my birthday? Not ONE 12-inch figure. I couldn't believe it myself haha The thing is, unlike toy collecting back in the day where you actually go out and hunt for 12-inch figures you want, today's toy collecting environment is a pre-order and wait situation whereby you get to preview stuff you like and then you place an order (pre-order) the item and wait for its release. Certainly teaches you patience as you cannot hurry the product but must wait for the call from the retailer that the stuff you ordered has arrived. I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of a very highly anticipated Heavy Armoured Special Cop any day now (check out my post HERE if you want to know what or who I'm talking about).

It so happens that there were no new 12-inch figure being released on my birthday week which means there's no 1/6 scale haul for my birthday toy blog post. What I did get are still some very nice action figures, including some impulse buys which are rare for me these days, given the internet and how you know what's coming out and what to expect.

So for my birthday, I got for myself the Disney Infinity Marvel Superheroes Spider-Man, Venom and Nova figures plus the first pair of the Kaiyodo Revoltech Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TMNT action figures (Leonardo and Raphael) as well as a Captain America shield power bank.

I had gotten the Disney Infinity "Pirates of the Caribbean" Davy Jones and Hector Barbosa 4-inch 10 cm Animated Marquette Figures in December 2013 because I just fell in love with the stylized design and rendering (you can check out the toy blog posts HERE and HERE) so when I came across this Disney Infinity Marvel Venom animated marquette figure, I had to get him. One of the reasons that got me into toy collecting was seeing the characters I've read in the comic books being brought to life in 3D and in this instance, Venom was captured beautifully in one single pose. I LOVE it! Check out my recent post titled "Why do adults collect toys?" HERE to better understand what goes on in our heads when we do what we do.

Because I have already decided on Venom (this was the impulse buy as I never intended to get him at all), I had to get Spider-Man as well since Venom will feel lonely and left out if he was displayed on the toy shelf all by himself. Unfortunately, Spider-Man was only available as a two-pack with Nova so I ended up with three Disney Infinity Marvel Superheroes animated marquette figures.

The Disney Infinity Guardians of the Galaxy animated marquette figures have also been released but I told myself to not get into that as well. There was no compulsion for them unlike Venom.

Next up: Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Leonardo by Kaiyodo Revoltech. These TMNT action figures are nothing like Playmates version and they are supposed to be highly articulated. I liked them the moment I saw the prototype / preview pictures and pre-ordered them as soon as they were up. Now that I see them in hand, I am glad I did :) You can check out the preview pictures of all four TMNT on my toy blog HERE. Not sure why Kaiyodo didn't release all four at the same time though. Now I have to wait for the remaining two ninja turtles to be released.

And here's Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Raphael by Kaiyodo Revoltech

Last but not least, Captain America shield power bank from the wife :)

Time certainly flies! Not too long ago, I posted of my October 2013 loot (see the post HERE) and now it's 2014! That's fast even though it has been a year.
