DID Waffen SS 13th Handschar Division SS-Obersturmbannführer Preview

The 13th Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Handschar (1st Croatian) was one of the thirty-eight divisions fielded as part of the Waffen-SS during World War II. Its recruits were composed of Bosnian Muslims and Croats. The Handschar division was a mountain infantry formation, the equivalent of the German "Gebirgsjäger" (Mountain troops) units. It was used to conduct operations against Yugoslav Partisans in the Independent State of Croatia from February to September 1944.

Obersturmbannführer was a paramilitary Nazi Party rank used by both the SA and the SS. Translated as “Senior Assault (or Storm) Unit Leader”, Obersturmbannführer was junior to Standartenführer and was the equivalent to Oberstleutnant (Lieutenant Colonel) in the German Army.

DiD has decided to release a 1:6 scale 12-inch Waffen SS 13th Handschar Division SS Obersturmbannführer Hermann Hanke military figure and official pictures have been released of this upcoming figure.

Once again, DiD has spared no expense to give us tons of ultra detailed 1:6 scale gear and accessories, all World War II German stuff and given DiD's good history, expect excellent craftsmanship from them.

DiD hasn't disappointed with their fantastic head sculpts on all their recently released 12-inch military figures and this latest 1:6 head sculpt is no exception although I wouldn't know if this headsculpt is based on an actor, famous person or actual historical figure. Sculpting and painting these miniature heads to make them look realistic have really gone up several notches when it comes to DiD and Hot Toys.

And the uniforms / outfit aren't too bad either. If this picture is anything to go by, it looks like there's enough attire to dress two figures. IMPORTANT NOTE: *ONLY 1 SET OF HEADSCULPT AND BODY INCLUDED

You can view even more pictures at their website HERE

DID (Dragon In Dream) Waffen SS 13th Handschar Division SS-Obersturmbannführer Hermann Hanke will be AVAILABLE in Sept. 2010

Guess the headsculpt is an actor in "Valkyrie". He is the 1st (left) in the front row. I don't know his name. See link below...

Likeness to German actor Christian Berkel who appeared in many WW2 related movies as a German Officer - notably Downfall, Valkyrie and Inglourious Basterds too
