VTS 1:6 City Detective Review

Here it is - the Virtual Toys VTS VM002 1/6 scale City Detective collectible figure. Actually there isn't a FIGURE per se as this boxed set comes with a 1:6 head, clothes, shoes and accessories BUT no 12-inch body is included. The box is similar to their first release, the VTS VM001 Stone Cold Killer (reviewed HERE).

This VTS 1:6 City Detective boxed set seems to be based on Bruce Willis' character in "Surrogates", a 2009 science fiction film, based on the 2005–2006 comic book series of the same name. In the future, use of remotely-controlled androids called "surrogates" allows everyone to live in idealized forms in the safety of their own homes. A surrogate's operator is protected from harm and does not feel any pain when their surrogate is damaged. However, when two people are killed when their surrogates were destroyed, FBI special agent Tom Greer (Bruce Willis) and his partner Jennifer Peters begin investigating into the reasons why.

When Greer's surrogate is destroyed by a mob of humans, he is forced to interact in the world without one and these are the clothes he wore for the rest of the film (navy blue long sleeve sweater, plaid shirt and brown leather jacket) except the black T-shirt with the skull and cross-bones (I don't remember seeing him wearing that) which was not shown in the preview pictures.

The blue jeans he wore with his shirts, leather belt with buckle, shoes, FBI identification and Badge plus his sidearm (SIG-Sauer P228) with spare magazine.

The shoes look very nice and detailed but the jeans seem a little too overdone in the weathering / stone washed area. It looks really dirty (like "Die-Hard" dirty!) and looks like it hasn't been washed for ages.

Apparently, the FBI issues the excellent SIG Sauer P228 9mm semi-automatic pistol to all FBI Special Agents and FBI special agent Tom Greer (Bruce Willis) is no exception. However, the name on Greer's identification card provided by Virtual Toys is NOT Tom Greer but Fox Muider (perhaps it's a typo and meant to be Fox Mulder, another FBI Special Agent known for chasing after the weird and strange creatures roaming the United States back in the 1990s - check out my review of Sideshow's 1:6 scale 12-inch Fox Mulder figure HERE)

The rather detailed 1:6 FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) Badge

The 1:6 SIG Sauer P228 even has the serial number U57D407 engraved on it.

VTS VM002 1/6 scale City Detective's other accessories include his pistol holster and spare magazine holder, both to be attached to his belt

The most important thing of all is the 1:6 head sculpt. Does it measure up? Does it resemble the actor Bruce Willis who plays the main character FBI special agent Tom Greer (Bruce Willis) in "Surrogates (2009)"? Well, I think a picture speaks a thousand words so here are three close-up shots of the VTS HS and IMHO it's pretty spot on :)

I love this set, prefer it to the Stonecold Killlers one. Ha it's weird that the badge has Fox Mulder on it though. Cool pictures, you may have made my mind up to buy this :)

Almost fed up with too many Willis in the market ! Why don't manufacturers turn to Morgan Freeman, Jack Nicholson, David Moore and similar stars in the golden 90s?

welcome aboard Doon :)

bruce willis seems to be one of the hot favorites among 1/6 manufacturers, perhaps due to the overwhelming demand from collectors?

Looks more like Steve Austin than old Bruce.

do you think is it good to buy this one ?

Hi James, I got it because I'm a sucker when it comes to Bruce Willis and IMHO this seems to be a VERY GOOD HS of the actor. Check out my post tomorrow for another review of this figure with more pictures :)

The head sculpt is very good as I saw the actual product last week. Don't know if HT is going to produce Bruce Willis as they got the movie licence "The Expendable" recently. My first choice is definitely Stallone :)
