Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is a 2011 American action spy film. It is the fourth installment in the Mission: Impossible series. It stars Tom Cruise, who reprises his role of IMF Agent Ethan Hunt, and is director Brad Bird's first live-action film. Upon release, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol became a critical and commercial success. It grossed over $693 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Mission: Impossible film, the 5th highest-grossing film of 2011 and the highest-grossing film starring Tom Cruise, eclipsing War of the Worlds from the top spot.
Ethan Matthew Hunt, portrayed by Tom Cruise, is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Mission: Impossible film series. In "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol", Ethan Hunt (having just escaped from prison) and his IMF team are blamed for an attack that destroys the Kremlin, and disavowed.
Believe it or not, this is actually a Hot Toys Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt 12-inch figure that was released under their Famous Type line of figures way way back, even before their Movie Masterpiece Series got started. This was an unlicensed figure (before Hot Toys got serious with copyright issues and started charging collectors for the movie licenses they acquired. Let's face it, most figures without license cost a lot less than those that are officially licensed) but the resemblance was so obvious no guessing was required. You can view more pictures in my original post of this Hot Toys Famous Type Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt 12-inch figure. The hoodie is the latest addition :)
Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is an agent of an Impossible Missions Force (IMF) team, an unofficial branch of the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) and implied to be a black operations division of the Agency.
Hence the famous line from the Mission Impossible TV series and films: "Your mission, should you choose to accept it, involves (fill in the mission) and should any member of your team be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow all knowledge of your actions. This message will self-destruct in five seconds." Cue theme music.
Scroll down for close-up pictures of this Kitbash 1/6th scale Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt 12-inch Figure with his hoodie to mask his appearance and conceal his identity from prying eyes and surveillance cameras since he has become a wanted man, a man who has to be always on the run and at least one step ahead of his chasers.
It's most interesting to note that they brought Jeremy Renner on board as William Brandt, IMF Secretary's chief analyst and former IMF field agent to be part of the new IMF team :) After his role as Sergeant First Class William James in The Hurt Locker (2009), Jeremy Renner has been thrust into quite a few interesting roles, as James "Jem" Coughlin in "The Town (2010)" and Clint Barton / Hawkeye in "The Avengers". Soon he will be seen as Aaron Cross / Kenneth Gidson in "The Bourne Legacy". Jeremy Renner seems to be everywhere at the moment :)
In line with this Hot Toys Famous Type series, Hot Toys also released George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars (pictures HERE and HERE) and Keanu Reeves as Neo from "The Matrix (1999)" - posted HERE.
Another Hot Toys Tom Cruise 12-inch action figure was the F-14 Tomcat pilot figure (Tom Cruise as LT Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in the 1986 film "TOP GUN") - pictures HERE. There's also the Brothers Production 1/6th scale Private Military Contractor (PMC) 12-inch figure (REVIEW here) that looked a lot like Tom Cruise as well. Last but not least, there's Tom Cruise as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg from the film "Valkyrie" by DID (quite a good likeness captured HERE)
On the subject of Jeremy Renner, Dragon Models Limited (DML) attempted a 1/6th scale Jeremy Renner as Sergeant First Class William James head sculpt when they released the U.S. Army EOD Squad Leader Sergeant First Class "William" (Operation Iraqi Freedom) in 2010. You can view the pictures and review HERE :)
